Zone Classic Pin Colours..
« on: May 20, 2006, 05:47:26 PM »
Since I'm sort of a "rookie" again taking up bowling after some years of absence. I'm curious of what the difference is between Zone Classic "Red Pin" and "Green Pin" bowling balls?   Do they react differently? etc....

Found this here: http://www.bowlingball.com/Ball-2960/brunswick-zone-classic-red-pin.html

The Zone Classic Red Pin uses a less aggressive reactive coverstock than the original Zone Classic (green pin) making the Red Pin a better match-up for drier lane conditions.

Just to clarify, the SlayR used a completely different cover, LS, not PK17

There are two trains of thought on the coverstock of the red pin Zone Classic. Some retail bowling web sites state that it is indeed the Monster Slay/R coverstock. Nowhere I have read in print-- other than on these forums-- that the Red Pin has an activator coverstock that cured too long (man, they must have over cured a bunch of 'em....seems to me that after the first batch Brunswicks quality control would have had a handle on it).

I own both a green and red pin and in no way do I believe that the red pin has an activator coverstock. The RP goes straight as a fricken arrow until the entire lane is fried. Conversely, the Green Pin revs up through moderate to light moderate oil and roars in the pocket. There's just such a world of difference between the two that I can't believe the RP has an activator cover...over cured or not.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, it was a blem, otherwise they'd have marketed it along with the green pin, and consequently why there was a limited number of them available, which is why they're now very hard to find.  For those supplying this other information, haven't we had this discussion a couple hundred times?  The covers cured too long, and are therefore too hard.
