Zone Classic... Red Pin vs. Green

I know this topic was beaten to death a long while back, but I'm not having any luck searching back that far.

I can get my hands on either one of these, but how much weaker is the red pin version?  Is it enough that a stronger layout (and surface adjustment) wouldn't really be enough to make up the difference?

I ask because the layout that I'd use on the green version puts the CG in a unfriendly spot for balance hole tuning.  If I put a stronger layout on a similarly spec'd red pin it wouldn't be as bad.

Also... if anyone has a layout sheet for the red pin version, I was wondering where it ends up being put on the comparison chart.

Go with the green pin.  I had both.  Red pin was squirty, over/under ish.  Green pin was one of the best balls I have ever owned. (I still have it, needs some TLC to get it back to usable condition)

I definitely am leaning towards the green since I reread the details on the red.  PowerKoil LS sounds weaker than the coverstock on my Hi-Diff X-Zone.  

I'll discuss the current layout with my driller when the time comes, I'm sure a ring finger hole to the bottom of the ball would help with the pin above finger, 2.25" pinout...

The ball scales at 2.25 oz. positive and 1.5 oz. finger at the moment.

The Red Pin was still Activator, just overly cured.

I had one I am convinced was a mismarked Red Pin, and like others have said it was very squirty and over/under. Your mileage may vary.

the red pin is damn long in oil.
I took it down to 1000 with a grey pad and it reacted a lot better.
I have a red zone (which is similar to the classic) and the strength of the two balls is not even comparable.  Go with the green.  The red is for dry blends with backend.  Its hook potential is on par with the grooves.

I think there is too big of a difference in covers to make up for it in drilling or surface.  The green pin is a very strong ball for medium oil.  The red pin is for light oil and is practically allergic to oil.  Crankenstein is correct about the cover.  Same one, but cured wrong.  I had the reaction data for the red pin at one time, but can't find it now.  I think BrunsNick sent to me last time; he may still have it.

Wasn't PowerKoil LS the coverstock that was on the Slay/R?
If so, that's a very mild cover.

Whatever it is/was the hardness was listed in the 79-80 range, while the hardness on the X-Zone's were 78-79.  Hardness doesn't necessarily denote hook potential, but it's a rule of thumb I use.  I can't stand the modern, soft, pearls that are, for me, too sensitive to dryer boards.  For example, the love-hate relationship I have with my Hammer Toxic.

Anywho... back on topic.  For the dual angle enthusiasts out there... I drilled the green pin Classic up with a 60* x 4.5" x 60* layout.  This put the pin in my ring finger, which is a favorite location of mine.  Balance hole on PAP to bring it into legal specs.  Nice ball.  Relatively clean on the lighter oil shot they put out on Fridays here for the all you can bowl special.  Seems to be a ball that I just could keep bumping left all night with.

Original classic zone (green pin) was one of the best balls i ever threw.  That ball and the absolute inferno were my go to balls for a long time.

Compared to what?

Little FIGJAM here...

750 tonight with my CZ... First two games if I was remotely in the pocket it carried, third game I needed to put it away, but after 540+ for the first two, I couldn't/didn't put it down until the 10th frame.

One ten pin kept me from shooting a 279, 11 in a row game.
