Anyone changed the surface on the Vapor?
« on: March 04, 2006, 12:54:00 PM »
Today I got to see some fresh oil with my vapor, just drilled it yesterday.  I seems a pinch stronger than I want.  I had to good look yesterday, after drilling it, there was some carrydown.

I bowl league Monday night, if it is the same, then I may hit it with 400 and HG polish.  Any other thoughts or suggestions??

I put my Vapor Zone in the Lustre-Kleen about once a week. It seems to tame it down a little. I bowl on three leagues so that is about how long it lasts.

What you have to understand, is that the Lustre Kings have a tendency of clogging the pores on the bowling ball which will "tame the ball" somewhat. In all reality, those machines hurt the ball more than help it unless it is a last ditch effort to gloss a ball before competition.  For those that have had an Absolute and done cover changes to that ball, the Vapor should react very similar to those changes since it is the exact same coverstock.

Andrew......where is it stronger than expected?  Backend or overall hook?  That should give us a better idea for what changes you can make.

I know this has been discussed here many times. I have never seen a definitive answer on whether it harms the ball. I have never had problems using the Lustre King. From what I remember, the older machines used a wax conmpound while the new machines use a buffing compound.

It is my understanding that balls leaving the Brunswick factory are ran through Lustre kleen machines.

From what I gather, you want the ball to become weaker? If this is the case, keep putting games on it. I've noticed with mine, and I've heard the same with others that the reaction isn't quite as good or strong after some games are put on it.

I have polished the vapor with ebonite factory finish lightly and it does very well. Also, I have great success with 1000 & 2000 grit abralon. I prefer to use this ball when the lanes start to carry down. Just depends on pattern length and volume.
