I'd go with the first description over the previous... I don't think I could accurately pick out 40' or 44' down the lane when standing at the foul line (or probably not even 36') and I doubt I could make the balls hook at those specified distances... I think the message here (in general terms) is good though... basically they produce three different relative lengths with essentially the same reaction shape.
They all used (I believe) an extremely hard ceramic based particle in the coverstock. The surfaces where nearly impossible to adjust (without Trizact pads).
