Anyone throwing the Dry/R?
« on: October 02, 2008, 01:48:28 PM »
I am struggling to find a true (contemporary) dry lane ball that is not plastic (own XXXL).  Bowling on a dry THS shot that seems to be drier than usual in the middle.  I have a Roto Sonic X Solid (Pin up) that snaps too hard.  Have a Slate Blue Gargoyle that is a little too squirly (will try surface changes).  Also bought a Avalanche Solid (Pin Axis) that starts up too early for this particular shot.  Older stuff listed in profile.

I am thinking of several options including a Dry/R & Neptune.  From what I can tell the Dry/R is the weaker of the two but I am curious what the "people" say about its performance.

Thanks in advance!

Dry/R is a good one, just do not drill it too strong because it flares a lot.

Besides, if the SBG is too squirty (I know aht you mean, also have one at OOB that does not like carrydown or longer oil at all) you can easily take it to 4.000 or 2.000 Abralon, this will enhance overall controllability considerably.

I have a Dry/R in the tournament bag, for those very rare occasions where I need something that will ignore the front part of the lane but still recover when I give it room.  IME it's as clean through the front as the other reactive Power Grooves, but is somewhat more subdued at the break.

As for drillings, I was advised to go stronger than usual with the Dry/R, because with a weak drilling, it could miss the break completely.  I went with a leverage pin position, and I haven't had any problems with over-flaring.
