Title: Forum links
Post by: qstick777 on April 30, 2012, 10:06:53 AM
I've noticed that the links don't all work accurately.  Example:  this is the "Bug Reports" forum, under the "Site Support"  section.  Clicking on the link for "Site Support" actually takes you back to the Home Page instead of showing you the 2 sections under Site Support - Bug Reports and Comments and Suggestions.

Yeah, same thing with "Bowling Boards"... Brings you to home page as well.

I'm also having problems seeing other posters links when they provide them in a post... It comes out in all white letters underlined by a blue line... I can see that 1 is there, just virtually impossible to read it... Is that something on my end or is that something with the site?  Didn't have that problem with the "old format".

It sound like your browser is retaining some old styling information. Can you try hitting the refresh button (which should force your browser to pull new styling) and let me know if that clears it up? If it doesn't, please give me a link to a page where you're seeing the issue so I can look at it more closely.

That seemed to have worked... They are all in red letters now...

On a different note, Every now & then I'll hit the "quote" button or the "post" button after typing a reply & get kicked right to the "forum" page without my reply getting posted...  Sometimes I have to try 2 or 3 times before it finally works...  Anyone else have that problem or just me?

That's weird. Has this been happening since we moved to the new forum or just recently? There was an issue for about 15-20 minutes about 1-1.5 hours ago that was causing that to happen due to a bad code change (that was rolled back).

Not related to forum links, but having problems navigating the site in general from work.  Get a really big blue back ground that I have to scroll down through, then most of the lettering is black on blue, and get a ton of small white boxes with a red "X" inside where a picture or something belongs.  We use piece of carp "work stations" that we can't make any changes to.  Using IE8.  I'm trying to post some screen shots, but not having any luck.

Hmm, if refreshing the page doesn't help things then I'll probably need a screenshot to work with.

Hasn't happened since I posted here that it was happening... LoL!!  Sorta like what noise a car makes until you bring it to the mechanic when the sound magically disappears...

Hopefully that showed up this time, can't tell on my end.  I had already refreshed, cleared cookies, logged out and back in before my first post.

That definitely looks like the styles aren't loading and/or you've got some dns caching issues. I've tested with IE8 on a test machine and it appears to be loading the site correctly.

Any suggestions or settings I might be able to try?  These work stations are slow and relatively pathetic, but this is the first site I've seen that really looks terrible.

Will you right-click on any of the images that won't load, click properties, and let me know what it says in "Address (URL):"?

Those are all correct but if they aren't showing I wonder if your office doesn't have some firewall set up that isn't allowing connections to the ip directly. I'll look at rewriting the sections that are directly referring to the ip and we'll see if that helps. Just as a test though, tell which of these images shows up:

1) (https://www.ballreviews.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F50.63.136.199%2FThemes%2Fdefault%2Fimages%2Fpost%2Fxx.gif&hash=006b41008fbbb1b3d87dcc3372d2539ab07d9afe)

Still seeing the problem that the OP brought up - not going to the Site Support forums but the Home Page.

Also, noticed that if a topic runs more than one page, the original post is not posted on any of the following pages at the top of the page like it used to.  That may or may not be necessary, but sometimes can be useful in follow-up posts to the OP.

The top image is the little box with an "x" inside.  The bottom image looks normal.  Sort of two diamonds, one more or less on top of the other.

Whether it's something you did, or my work station figured out the code, the whole site looks normal now.  Thanks for all the help!

Yea, we changed things so that the ip wouldn't be referenced. Glad to hear it is working for you.

Yea, the original problem is going to take some coding so it will probably get handled once I finish porting over the profiles. I'll add looking at showing the OP on each page to the list.
