Title: Problems again? (virus)
Post by: axeweldr on May 19, 2008, 02:09:12 AM
Think the site is having probelms again today.  My virus blocker has caught two from here.  Be very cautious!

What pages were you viewing that caused virus alerts? Anyone else experiencing similar issues, please include this information.

Was checking out the Hammer forum, Emerald vibe post, and had the message pop up.

Just checked that thread along with the db and found nothing out of the ordinary. Did you do a full clean after the issues last week? I ask because some people continued to receive virus alerts when visiting our site until they did so.

I do a full system scan every morning, well I am at work.  Don't know where it came from then.

If you do continue to have issues feel free to pm me with more info axeweldr. I'll be happy to look through any information your virus scanner spits out as to where it sees the virus and/or what type of virus it is detecting.

Someone decided to come on the site a few days ago and post some false information under the user name "BallReviews-OWNER" and confirmed the info under the user name "BallReveiws-TECH" (note the "BallRevEIws" not "BallRevIEws"). Many people believed that this user was legit and spoke on behalf of BR. Because of this post, the site was adjusted to indicate which users belonged to the standard "users" group and which users belonged to the "admin" group.

Sorry to hijack here:

Could I recommend an additional group be created call new user.  New users would be users who have had their account say less than a year in order to better identify trolls and bowling ball sales fraudsters.

If possible, create an ignore function to ignore all posts from those in the new user group.  Might be beneficial in making this a better site.

Thanks!

I am experiencing this also. If I go to another window I already have open on my browser, and return a few minutes later, I have to log-in again. I think I stayed permanently logged-in a few days ago....

Did you guys with the log-out issue make any changes to your User preferences? This seems to be the catalyst for when the login ceases to be persistent for me ...

just changed my preferences to "show posts from last 7 days(recommended)" and hit the update preferences button..... I'll see if that solves the log-out problem.... guess I'll have to watch it for a while.... thanks for the tip

It took about 5 days after making the preferences change before the login became persistent again. (And the search function was no longer set to 120 days, either.  )

Logging Out - Did you guys try clearing your cookies?

For the longer search function, look into the Unofficial BR FAQ post in my sig for the fix to that.

Edited to add Logging Out.

Under Tools, go to Internet Options, then delete Temp files cookies, etc.

You can also try Disk Clean up.

Try emptying your cookies buffer. "Toss your cookies!" (Sorry couldnt resist)

That used to help me when I had that problem.
