Getting logged out
« on: January 22, 2005, 08:31:38 AM »
Since about 36 hours ago (it is now 6:30 PM Saturday, Eastern Time), I have gotten logged out of ballreviews  8 or 9 times. I usually have to log with USERID and password in every 10 - 14 DAYS! Somnething is annoyingly WRONG!!

I am getting the same thing. Before I hardly ever had to log back in, now I have to every time.

havnt had trouble. You may just need to clear the cookies out of your browser. If you have Internet Explorer, go to tools>internet options>delete cookies (beware though, because this will clear ALL the cookies, so any other place you stay logged in to or anything like that will be gone.

Bowlingkid,

why would clearling all one's current cookies clear up this potential problem?

Not totally sure, but sometimes when you clean stuff out, it helps. It may just be the server though, cant really tell.

Interestingly enough, I just tried this.
Then I closed IE; them I reopened it.
Usually when I have done this, it forces a logoff and i have to log on again, via the password screen. This time I was automatically lgged on when the first Ballreviews screen was displayed. Wish I knew why.

If you're running Windows, the cookies are not only stored as text files in the IE cookie directory, but are cached within a binary file named INDEX.DAT.  By default, IE will go to INDEX.DAT to reference cookie data.

If INDEX.DAT somehow gets corrupt, you'll have problems with cookies on your system, even if the data in the text files for the cookies is correct.

On edit:  Clearing cookies through the Internet Options dialog will force INDEX.DAT to be reinitialized, and thus clear any corrupted cookie data therein.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. , but only a blind pig can find a white truffle!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I wonder if my cookie buffer was full or what was going on? I'm still logged on, but all visits to other websites will have them placing new cookies, I guess.

Yup. Every site you had cookies with will need to have the cookies put back on your computer next time you go there. I still dont know why this works, but it does.
