Title: Boos....AKA Grant Bingham...anybody?
Post by: Doug Sterner on October 22, 2009, 12:09:55 AM
Just posting to let everyone know.....

Bought a 15# Black Widow Venom (3-4 pin with top around 2-1/2 oz) from Grant Bingham (AKA Boos) on here.

Paid for the ball via Paypal on 10/11. Was promised the ball would go right out and was promised a tracking number.

So far I have received nothing.

Any other dealings with this guy?

Boos .. a member since 9-24-09 .. no profile .. that's not like you Doug .. must have been an awful good deal. How was communications before the deal? You know the procedure through Paypal much better then me. Did you take any action? I never heard either of his names before!

Just received a PM from him stating his wife has been sick and that UPS never gave him a tracking number.

Still didn't tell me when the ball was shipped and it's been a week...only takes a week from CA to NY so I should have it.

I dunno.

UPDATE.......

sent me a PM stating that he just got the ball back...said he didn't put enough postage on the ball.

He says he is going to refund my money. I paid with Paypal so it should not be a problem.

As soon as my refund is received I will post that fact and lock this topic.

Until that happens, I will continue to update.

Ok to clear My name. I do UPS transactions out of My Home. I misweighed the Ball. I did nothing else wrong. My wife was VERY sick last week and I could not get any information to Him. I think my wife's health is a little bit more important than a bowling ball. I told him I would give him his money back. And believe Me i will because I want to sell My Bowling balls to someone that I know can take care of them.

I use fed ex and have an account. If I put 15 pounds down and it weighs 16, they still deliver the ball. They just bill me a little bit more. They DO NOT send the ball back to me. If that's UPS policy, I would drop them like a hot potato..

Another poor excuse...I have a ups account and print labels from my home...have actually had the account for 3 years or so....with ups if you say the ball weighed one  pound and they weight it and they find out you put wrong weight, they bill you the differance...just like fedex....nice try!

I am not trying to stiff anyone. I dropped the package off at a UPS Store. So YOUR WRONG.

Just to clear your name even more and since you dropped the ball off. Did you get a tracking number so Doug can check?  Maybe check where the package was going if it was going anywhere?

I worked at The UPS Store for two years.  If a customer dropped off a box with a pre-paid shipping label that had the wrong weight on it, it would still be delivered and the customer would be billed the difference directly to their account.  And even if you paid The UPS Store to ship it instead of putting it on your own account, and it had the wrong weight on it, they still would go ahead and deliver it, then bill that UPS Store the difference.  UPS does not bother to return the package simply for having the wrong weight billed on it under basically any circumstances.

Considering that never happened even once in the entire time I worked at The UPS Store (which is one of the highly-managed-by-corporate franchises so they all operately essentially identically), I highly doubt that's the case.

Well, I don't work for UPS or an UPS store but I know if I dropped off a package I usually get a tracking number. Again to clear your name, wouldn't providing Doug a tracking number help your cause? Tracking number?

What I really want is the ball we made the deal for....he was all too happy to take my money into his paypal account. Now that he says he will give me a refund I have to wait for him to get the money into his paypal account because he doesn't use the account that much.

ALl of this could have been avoided with some simple communication....I was told his wife was ill but he also said he'd "get the ball right out though."

I bought a ball from bigz on here AFTER I bought the one from Boos and I already have the Toxic from bigz sitting on the plugging bench with a liquid filled thumbhole.

That's waht got me thinking about why I didn't get the ball yet. Then I looked around on here and I see the same ball with the same specs being advertised for $17 more and then later for $43 more than he was going to sell it to me for.

Again.....communication and being up front with the person you are dealing with could have avoided all of this.

If you do the UPS from your home that is more reason to have a tracking number! Just look at your account and it shows your shipments and tracking numbers! Just a thought!

Doug,

His wife may have been sick last week but it appears that he had time to post almost every day in threads??????  Not saying that she was not sick but you can search his posts and see he was on most days in the past10 days if you had time to post you had time to respond to Doug.

Man up Boos, send Doug his ball.

What an absolute scam artist.

I do enjoy the two threads in which he tries to sell the ball you've already paid for....increasing the price every time.

It really makes me wonder if you are going to see that ball, or if he has sold it elsewhere already and is just stringing you along.  Didn't think it would be all that hard for him to get you a tracking number.

The format for that tracking number is legit -- it should show up in the system once the package is actually scanned at a UPS facility.  Looks like he at least finally printed a shipping label, if nothing else.  That's a start.

Why don't you post the tracking number for everyone to see? You're so intent on listing ball after ball but you can't post something as simple as the tracking number to show anyone who might remotely consider dealing with you that you are in fact completing your end of the deal.

That is up to doug. Contact Him. He can if he wants.

According to the UPS website guys the tracking number is legit as the package is being shown as left the facility in Laurel MD.

It does not say where it is going or when it should arrive but I would guess I will see it Monday.

It appears that he has followed through as he said he would.

Now the only thing I need to worry about is if the ball is actually coming here and if it is in fact the ball I paid for when it arrives...

But for now Grant is regaining some lost respect.

Hey Boos are you associated with Binghams Bowling supply in MD? You sure sound and type like the owner of Binghams. Remember way back the talk about internet vs brick and mortar pro shops?

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I received my ball today from Grant. The ball is mint condition, specs as advertised and was packaged properly.

I retract my previous statement about things being fishy.

If Grant's wife truly is sick, I apologize for being an arse about the deal...I just don't like the vibe I was getting with the deal.

Thank you Grant for coming through.

Glad to see you got your ball.  I wouldn't apologize.  You don't have a crystal ball showing you are buying an advertised ball by someone w/a sick wife.  My feeling is if you didn't post on here, you still wouldn't have your ball.  It took 3 weeks from the time you paid to get your ball.  Is that timely fashion?  Did you know that coming into the deal?  Answer is probably no to both questions.

Bottom line.  It shouldn't take squawking on a bowling site to get your ball.  Common sense says, if you take the money, then ship the merchandise.  A couple days for a sick family member fine, but not 3 weeks, and communicate to your buyer.

communicate to your buyer

This being the key!!

I've had plenty of dealings with people here and so long as communication has been started, I am always more lenient in working through delays.  But.....that communication has to be there.

Well guys I am going to do what I promised Grant I would do....I told him I would post that the ball had been delivered as proof that he held up his end of the deal and then I said I would lock the topic so here it is...last post.

The deal started out badly but with some communication and help from you guys it all turned out OK.

Thank you all for your assistance and posting.
