WOW.....WOW....and WOW (Theses are the 1 st 3 words I said to myself after throwing this ball) I said that after throwing the Full Swing that there can never be a ball that will hook as much or more than the Full Swing! I was wrong. This ball is like NOTHING I have ever thrown before! This ball has the Full Swing asymmetric core, giving the ball its hook on the lanes. The coverstock is the Full Tilt 7.5, a VERY aggressive veneer. If you are looking for a HOOK MONSTER....This ball is it !

Expectations / Reaction
After throwing the total bedlam I couldnâ€™t imagine a ball being much stronger so when I heard Columbia was coming out with a stronger full tilt cover stock I thought it was going to be a one dimensional hook monster that I couldnâ€™t throw for more than a game. To my surprise the pure physics offered more versatility than expected with a good move off the dry and not to much roll out. This ball is made for oil and if you donâ€™t have enough up front donâ€™t even think about pulling this one out of the bag. This ball started up early and rolled heavy in the mids rolling off the pattern with a defined arc. Swinging the ball was not all that successful because of the overall strength, once it made its move there was just not enough energy left to offer optimum pin carry. Players with a lot of ball speed will enjoy this reaction especially when squaring up or playing with a tight breakpoint on fresh conditions.

My thoughts:

I typically have a problem getting strong equipment to get through the ends clean enough to save energy for the backend. The Pure Physics is not one of those balls. I was surprised to see the ball push through the fronts. The ball reads the midlane and produces a strong backend finish. Iâ€™ve been able to use this ball to make some of the tightest patterns look wide open. If you are looking for a strong, predictable backend motion, or if you want to be able to cover a lot of boards, the Pure Physics is going to the ball you are looking for.

All I can say WOW. This ball is amazing. I don't know to much of the technical stuff. All I know is that I am a lefty and I have a low rev rate and average right around 15 mph, and the pin is right above my ring finger, and it has 3-4 inch pin. And man does this ball hook. I have always heard of a ball that doesn't quit but this is the first ball that I have ever seen that no matter how far you move in it doesn't quit. I moved all the way next to the ball return and the ball still came back into the pocket. This ball is a hook monster no question. The reaction of the ball reminds me a lot of the resurgence, except the backend is much more defined. I threw my resurgence from the same line as I did the pure physics, and the resurgence came in light. It just didn't hook as much in the backend as the pure physics. Fantastic ball by Columbia 300. With balls like this they will bowl the world over.

With the Pure Physics Columbia has the ultimate hook monster. Even polished
to 1200 my Physics drilled 4x4 covers as many boards as I want it to. When dull
out of the box it cuts thru heavy oil and saves the hit for the backend. This
ball continues thru the pins like no other oil ball Columbia has produced.
I could have used this ball at the USBC team event where oil was very prevelant.
I think polished this ball can be used on most conditions from
medium to heavy oil. For those with a weak hand you will love the strong arc it gives.

My favorite ball of this year has been the Pure Swing, so I was looking forward highly to this Pure Physics. Same core system with a stronger, dull shell. I knew what I was going to get, so used a Very similar layout to my favorite Pure Swing. I used a slightly weaker pin placement, 5Â¾ from PAP, and a slightly stronger Mass Bias placement, 3Â½, at 50 degrees. This placed the Pin inside my middle finger, and MB close to my VAL. Anyway, I got what I expected, a smoother, heavier rolling version of my Pure Swing. Ball was 5-7 boards stronger overall, and handled alot more volume of oil. That Pure Swing was comped to me and laid out at the Norwich PBA stop by Del Ballard, and I use the ball on the Cheetah and Viper. This Pure Physics will work well on the Chameleon and Scorpion patterns, or if the lanes are tighter than normal on a Viper or even Cheetah pattern with this Layout. For the League Bowler, I would most likely use a different layout, say 5 x 4 with the pin Up for the average bowler who likes to start the ball inside the oil line around 13-15 and bump the track area, who is facing typical House Conditions. Coverstock can be easily tuned to gain more length/backend motion by polishing. I have a 2nd one of these on the way and cannot wait to drill it up. Go out and get yourself one today!

I was ecstatic to find out about Columbia's release of the Pure Physics. For starters, this is a great looking ball, nice shelf/customer appeal. Once I drilled this ball and started using it I was amazed by the reaction and its exceptional pin carry. The Pure Physics, for a dull coverstock actually does get quite a bit of length but creates a tremendous amount of friction in the midlane and saves up a lot of energy and creates an amazingly strong and continuous motion on the backend. I have experienced a great deal of versatility with my Pure Physics as well. Since I used a wider drill angle, I have been able to use this ball on medium volume patterns to complement how well it reacts on heavy and long patterns. Thus far, I have been using this ball for about 2 months and I have amassed 2 300's, my new high series of 833, and a new career high on Shark pattern with 720. For those looking for a versatile ball for more medium-heavy to heavy patterns can do no wrong with the Pure Physics. Combined with the Pure Swing, these two balls make a great combination, especially for my high speed/rev rate because they both create a nice amount of friction in the midlane without sacrificing that strong and continuous backend motion that today's game requires. As I stated earlier, I was surprised that the OOB condition of this ball did create a lot more length than I thought, so I scuffed my surface on the Pure Physics with a 1000 abralon pad. Bowlers would be wise to put this ball in their bag. This is alot of ball, plain and simple
My ball rep told me that this is more hook than anything I've ever thrown, and he was right on target.
This ball likes to hook, as soon as it finds friction it just goes,
drilled this one with the pin being above middle finger and mass Bias right next to the thumb (no correction needed) left it at out of box surface, will try shining this one tonight before league just to give it a different look, very impressed with what i have seen so far, and will post more later when I get a few games on it shinned.

Cut up a Pure about 2 months ago with strong layout 4.5x4 from PAP, pin over ring finger CG kicked right. The ball is a hook monster. By far the strongest overall hooking ball since Ebonite took over Columbia 300 in 2006. I wouldn't take the ball out of the bag on anything lower than Chameleon and may be too strong for Chameleon (of course depending on lane surface).

I think what's great about the Pure is it gives you confidence that no matter how heavy the volume you always have an option. Something I never felt before since being on Columbia staff (even with the Resurgance). I've had some good success with the Pure on Shark and Scorpion in my PBAX leagues. The only issue you will have with this ball is getting it through the front. I have not altered the surface but if you possess strong hand you may have to throw on some Powerhouse factory finish to clear the front on the fresh. Strangely the ball seems to retain it's energy longer than you would think and really hits extremely hard. Just a great release from Columbia that belongs in every bag.

Likes: Got this ball after my Pure Swing, (see review) Drilled identical. (5.25X4.5, wt hole on pap) Sanded to 4000grit abralon. First ball out of bag. Very smooth and controllable. Excellent length for a solid. When this ball starts leaving soft tens, get Pure Swing out, move two boards left and let the strikes keep coming. Best two ball combo I have ever owned. (38 years).

Dislikes:

Very arcy ball, so if you swing it too much, tends to not get back all the way. Too tight and it gets nosey.

I used the Pure Physics on several lane conditions as several centers and just could not get the reaction I was looking for. I have a Burst which suits my style very well. I throw 16-17MPH with a lower rev rate and found this balll would roll out quite a bit once getting to the deck. The Burst I have continues through the pocket and hits hard - this ball did not. I even had it redrilled so it would be more aggressive and it still did not produce the results I was looking for. I average 207 in one league with it and 212 in another league with the Pure Physics, but left a lot of 8-10's which is very frustrating if not impossible to pick up. Average around 220 with the Burst. Have not had that problem with the Burst and have decided to order an OutBurst for oily lane conditions. For me, it seems this ball may be meant for people with a higher rev rate. I'm thinking I have so much better success with the Burst that the OutBurst is a good choice. I use a 15lbs Burst and I'm going with a 16lbs OutBurst, so the speed will be a little slower and I'll get more hook, which is what I need on oily lanes. Just need a good dry lane - 10pin ball now. I'm thinking a Scout is the way to go - gotta stick with a Columbia ball...
