Title: Full Throttle
Post by: admin on December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM
If you haven't experienced the Cam Shaft core, join the masses and take your game Full Throttle. At the starting line, we lowered the Rg of this triple flip block core which will produce lightening quick revs in the midlane. We floored the Accelerator Reactive Coverstock for unmatched performance in medium to heavy oil. Be the first to cross the finish line when you go Full Throttle.

I was pleased to find this ball waiting for me when I got back from the Masters. The pin was 1" out and it had 2 3/4 top weight. I put the pin 1" under my ring finger and slightly kicked the CG towards my PAP. The pin ended up about 5" and the CG about 4 1/2" from PAP.

I have been looking forward to this addition to the Columbia line because ift fills a need...it fills a lot that didn't previously exist. What are the biggest hooking balls in the line? The Throttle (particle) and the ICON 300 (Particle) and, if sanded, the Formula (Particle). This is the first high-powered pure resin ball Columbia has introduced in a while...something to open up the lane with and give some kick on the backend on heavier oil.

This ball does exactly that. Looking on Columbia's scale, it is indicated to be just as strong a ball as the Throttle, but more on the backend and less in the front...the scale was dead-on accurate. The Full Throttle is clean through the heads, but flips HARD and goes into an incredibly strong roll on the backend. It carries exceptionally well and annihilates pins. I am already considering ordering another and shining it up to see what it will do as a power shiny resin.

Basically I like this ball.
But, I am not using it in the Out of box condition.
Worried that if left in out of box condition, I'd have a ball that reacted the same as my Unleashed, we sanded the ball to 1000 grit and put a polish on it.
I find the ball works well this way.  It really worked well on freahly dressed wood lanes with clean backends.  It would slide through the mids well, and make a strong turn to the pocket.
Unfortunately, these are not the conditions I normally bowl on.  We bowl third shift, with the lanes breaking down after the first game.  The ball does work well for me standing about 20-25 and swinging it out to 10-15.  Goes through the mids well, with an even reaction to the pocket.  I would say it's the hardest hitting ball I own (phenom and unleashed being the two strongest).
I haven't put that many games on this, so my review is based on less than 6 full games.  Still getting used to the ball.
The ball is drilled strong, to go long and have max backend reaction.
While it is definately not a skid/flip ball in this condition, it does have a more angular entry into the pocket.
I throw the ball about 16mph with med revs.

Hope this helps.  I think I may take this ball back to it's OOB condition, and see if that works better for me, on our given lane conditions.

Good luck to those who love this ball,
breezyjr

An update.
I returned this ball to the OOB condition, and I absolutely love it now.
Very much like the Phenom unleashed with more backend reaction.
Used this ball in a Pro-am with PBA pattern A oil, and it had crazy backend.  Personally, I've never seen a ball react like this one did on the PBA oil.  It got down the lane very smooth, then when it hit the backends, it took a left turn like I've seen seen, anywhere.  Maybe it was the oil pattern, which I'm not used to throwing on.  Usually, our lanes are crap, were're third shift, and there must be a great deal of carrydown.  It does still have a great backend on our league conditions, just not as much as the PBA oil.
It hits harder than any other ball I have.

It has replaced my unleashed as the favorite ball in my bag.

I recommend this ball to anyone.  Everyone in our house who has one, states they love it as much as I.

Good luck,
breezyjr

I also love this ball, get some tilt and it takes off but clears the heads easily, stay up the back of the ball and it just makes a small hard move near the end.  Mine's drill 5 1/4 x 4 1/2 i believe with the pin above ring finger and cg kicked out about an inch.  2 inch pin on the ball.

I just had to add this, because I was so excited.
Last night I scored my best series ever with this ball. 194-243-224=661!!!
being a 175 avg bowler I was pretty excited with all the strikes I got.  And, I did have a few light and heavy hits that carried.  A testiment to how hard this ball hits.
Won a bunch a jackpots too, first time this year.  Only took me 26 weeks. hehe

Now, if I'd just made my spares, would have easily had a 700.  But, oh well, there's no room for a story in that little score box.  Certainly not complaining I didn't get a 700, but kind of annoying when you review your games and realize I missed too many easy spares (didn't have a single split all night)

That's all.  Just excited I did so well, and wanted to share it with everyone who is still considering this ball.

Later,
breezyjr AKA: Mr. 661
Now I just need to repeat it next week.  lol

WOW!!!!!!!

This ball absolutely rocks,

I've had the chance to throw this ball on some varying lane conditions and oil is certainly not my forte but this thing carries from coast to coast on the oiliest condition in the house that i bowl in.Two of my mates bought this ball also and i have polished mine and it seems to react well still even when the lanes are freshly conditioned.

A great ball go by one!!!!

I am in love with this ball.  This is the first year that my wife and I are bowling in a league.  I am currently a 135 avg year to date. This past weekend I bowled my first two 200 games and two 500 plus series.  This was only the second and third time that i used the ball in our league.  Our lanes are med to heavy oil and the ball cut right through without any problems.  With this ball I have all the confidence that if I am close to my mark then I would get the resulti wanted (at least a 8 count).
My new career high game was friday with a 234 a single pin from my century award.
The few other people i know that also own this ball all agree that this is by far their favorite ball.

Drilled this ball pin over the bridge with a 2" shift making it about a 6 1/4 by 3 1/2 with a hole on the 1/2" above the PAP with a lot of polish.  I tried this ball without a hole because it only had 3/4 oz. positive and didn't like it at all.  Ball went way too long and didn't hit very well.  After the weight hole, a completely different ball.  This is not as strong as I expected when comparing to my Vortex 2 and the shape is much diffent.  Even with the low RG of this ball, it doesn't read the midlane as much as my V2 which is good and it doesn't jerk off the dry as much either.  All in all, I would say a pretty good match of core and cover which should be versatile for a variety of styles.

Hope this helps,
Morpheus

This is a great ball, not for the heaviest of heavy oils, but it does cut it on the medium heavy conditions.  I thought it was funny to see people complaining that this ball doesn't move, because I know it does.  I could put this ball on the same level on my Black Cherry Bomb, it is that good.  Morpheus, you said jerk off...

Specs: 15 lb. 2" pin, 3 oz. top weight, drilled stacked leverage w/ weight hole
Lane conditions: Heavy oil synthethic
Style: Power stroker, medium high ball speed, medium revs

I got this ball a few weeks ago and first game I bowled with it was a 255. Drilled stacked, this ball cleans the heads well (providing that there's enough head oil), goes down and makes a nice angular cut into the pocket. The place where this ball really shines in on light pocket hits. It seems to carry light pocket hits all night long. Corner pin leaves are minimal as well. A high rev player can definitely play in with this ball and swing out with it. However for me, my revs aren't enough to make the ball come back if I swing too wide. I've been playing the 10 board, swinging to the 5, and the ball skids down hard, and then bites into the pocket. I just bowled a 290 with this ball today, which is my highest game ever. Everything that hit pocket, or was close to it, was a strike. Overall, a great heavy oil ball that should have a spot in every bowler's bag. If the lanes are wearing down though, I would bag this ball and go to a medium oil ball. However, this ball isn't as sensitive to dry as you might think, although when it hits toast it's going to overreact. I'd say that this is a very versatile heavy oil ball and definitely recommend it. 9.1/10

p.s. - Just got a Detour to compliment this ball. I'll have a review posted after I play a few weeks with it.

I recently purchased this ball.  3" pin 3.5 top weight, drilled stacked with a small weight hole.  Gets through the heads clean as long as there's oil and has a strong backend.  In the dull box finish, this ball rolled very similar to my Super Carbide Bomb with a very smooth and predictable arc on the backend.  I decided to polish it up before trying it again and I must say I like the ball reaction much more when it's polished.  Very clean through the heads with a strong snap on the backend, but still very predictable and controllable.  Went out on the sport shot last night with it and shot 247 the 2nd game with it.  Very consistent reaction.  Once the shot began to break down and carry down more, I put the ball away.  The reaction started to become more over/under once the 3rd game began.  I believe that just about anyone would love to have this ball in their arsenal.  Considering it's a heavy oil ball, it saves a large amount of energy for the backend.  Very versatile as well.  This one gets a 10 in my book.

Columbia sent us this ball for Willie Willis to throw. Willie laid it out with the pin above his ring finger and the cg stacked on his grip line.

On our house shot, with the outsides being dry and more oil in the middle, Willie was able to play third arrow swing this ball out to 5 and get the ball back without a problem. The ball has awesome hitting power, whatever angle you play on the lane.

We didn't make any surface adjustments because this ball cleared the heads out of the box on everything but dry lane conditions, which is not what this ball is made for.

I think this was the best overall Throttle in the line. This is a strong reactive coverstock, with the Throttle core. The Full Throttle gives you a smooth overall arcing motion to the pocket.

Any questions, please email me at Bill@BuddiesProShop.com

So far everyone is loving the full throttle and its good to hear such positive feedback. But i guess ill have to be the first to hate this ball. i say it carried some light hits and right out the gate i really liked it. Untill it died on me after only maybe 20-25 games which shouldnt happen. Any ways i figured it could be the way it was set up. so i had my driller plug and re-drill the strongest legal drilling and i still did not like it. I must say that coloumbia has never disapointed me until this ball. But i still love 300's equipment and will still continue to buy their products just not the f.t o well i guess you cant like every ball you buy.

I'll keep it simple. Ball speed is about 14-15mph. Medium Revs and Medium Axis Rotation. Lane condition Medium-Heavy. 1st time i threw this ball (out of the box condition), there was a long oil pattern layed out and i took 8 strikes. Ball stayed strong until the carry down started to come into play. I just put it in the bag.
Highly reccommend this ball!

Lefty
11:00 Label Drill
Legal Statics No big deal
Surface 800 Dull

League Night Carry down lazy backend reaction, I have a fit everytime I bowl here.  Drilled up this ball, another Columbia Clone.

This ball is actually pretty aggressive on oil and carrydown which was astonishing given Columbia's reputation for skating like Chilly Willy when on oil.

The Full Throttle (FT) does not permit a great deal of projectile freedom but it provides a great reaction when other balls fart out of its holes.

I like this ball, I still have a blank, I hope it keeps on going like its Superflex Clone buddy and not its Particle mutant death spawn

Hey...

This ball is new to me... I just recently bought it, had it punched about a week ago, and haven't really had a chance to throw it.  these are my specs though.

I have the ball set with a 2 1/2" pin with about 3 oz. of top weight (its 15lbs), and Box Finish. Pin just between and above my fingers and CG kicked to the right of my span about 1/4-1/2 in. It has a 1/4 in. balance whole.

----------

I'm a righty, about 5'6" 145 lbs.. I have a fairly small hand, but I use it alot, I crank the ball med./high revs but like to keep the hook as small as I can to eliminate the possibility of error. My starting position with my shoulder width is a 12 board difference ( stand on 12 to hit 5, 17 to hit 10, etc. )

When I get a chance to roll this ball, I will come back with an update and let everyone know what I think and how it reacted to the lanes (synthetic, reg. house shot).

--------------- Update ---------------

Man , i threw this ball tonight just playin around.. Its the first time I've really got to use it.  The sweet spot was standing on 26 and shooting 15.  The ball would go out to about 4 and snap back like a ton of bricks.  I couldnt believe the carry it had.  First game outa the bag i shot 241 and then a 264.  In the 264 game I had the last 10..  I started off the next game with a strike, and on my 12th ball i left the 7-10 .  Anyway, they started the lazer bowl crap, and I dont care much for that, so i put it up and left, but MAN! I love this ball..  I am very pleased with its reaction, and it is now my favorite ball in the bag.  I recommend it for someone who wants alot of backend.

15 lb ball with 2.75 top weight i believe with 3 in pin drilled stacked.  good ball hits good sometimes hangs outside and doesnt finish but can be controlled with speed adjustment.  Very good ball overall and would recommend it to anybody

i like my full throttle but it over reacts somtimes and comes in at weird angles leaving some really nazty splits. but on a heavy oil pattern it dominates. U can swing this ball like u wouldnt believe. It is by far the most hooking ball i have ever owned and my arsenal conisists of xxxtreme xxx factor v2 strong/R xcel particle

i would not recomend this ball for someone trying to play outside lines unless u get it polished it will over or /under react.

               i rate it a 7/10

I have had this ball for a about 6 months or more, i cant remember but i have loved every minute i have had this ball.  I bought it used off a guy i found was selling it in my local papershop for 30 bucks.  boy was it worth every penny.  The reaction this ball has on the back end is outstanding.  as the previous guy stated the colors of the ball match the ball perfect(BLACK and BLUE) the color the pins will be after this ball hits the pocket LoL.  this ball hits with the power of a Mack truck hitting a brick wall; nothing is left standing.  definately a must buy ball for any one who wants a powerful ball that loves to crush pins.
