Through this ball recently, it isn't mine, but it fit my hand and I think I can give a decent review.  Drilled...

This ball rolls long, and it has a niiiice smooth backend.  It hits really hard too, hard anough for the $120 spent on it.  It's a very predictable ball that has a lot of room inside or out if you tend to miss a lot.  My 3 member team, 2 of them have one, and now I am going to get one.  This ball compares to the Messenget TI BSP, rolls long, rolls up, then hammers the pins.  Good beginners' ball.

Got this ball from Columbia along with my Fear and Shock.

My drilling is interestingly similar to the previous reviewer's to specifically give me decent length, good roll, and ability to handle drier conditions.

At first I wasn't sure about this ball.  I tried to use it on fresh lanes with a little too much oil in the heads and I got spotty reactions.  A few days ago I grabbed a fresh pair for practice and took my Flipside Fear out.  Over the course of 8 games I proceeded to wear out the track area and back ends.  Once every other piece of equipment I own was spent on the pair, I pulled out my Panic for game 9.

The ball had apparently found its element.  It refused to overreact to the drier heads and still recovered well in the carrydown (a function of the layout).  The end result of game 9:

X 8/ X X X X X X X XX8 = 278.

Both 8 counts were the result lower quality shots on my part.  The ball just skidded down the lane and went into a roll.  As long as I was hitting the breakpoint with good angle, the ball did exactly what was predicted.

Exercised the same use of the ball during league play.  Errant shots on my part notwithstanding, the ball really performed well in game 3.

Length: 10/10
Recovery: 9/10
Overall performance: 10/10

I'm keeping this ball in a safe place.  When the lanes are toast, I have a ball that will still do the job.

Drill Pattern
5x3
30 degrees
pin below the fingers

Lane Condition
League Shot
36 feet buffed to 40 (appox)

This could quite be the most versatile ball columbia has made in quite a while.
With the surface left at factory finish many different angles could be played.  The only drawback was it's reaction in oil, which could still be made up for by adding surface or with players that have more hand.  WIth the layout that we used, it produced one of the most predictable reactions I have seen in a while.  This ball could fit in about anyones arsenal, but people with a higher rev rate will be able to use it more.  I am definitely going to drill another one of these to see what else can be accomplished with this ball.

This happens to be my new favorite ball.  Unfortunately, I cant really give you any specs on it.  The only thing I can tell you about this ball is its 15lbs.. Has a very small (1/8in.) balance whole in the FlipSide logo. And is pin in at 1" set under the ring finger and the CG kicked out slightly, like this:

------------
----0-0----
-------o----
--------*---
------------
-----0-----
------------

I picked this ball up at a JTBA tournament in Ohio.  It was the Bob Kretzer Memorial.  Brian Kretzer came in with about 36 used balls from the PBA tour that had around or under 30 games on them.  So I went and took a peek because none of the balls were over $40.  This one fit my span pretty close, and had virtually no signs of wear or tracks marks on it anywhere. So I asked him if he could tell me anything about it. He said no, the only thing he knew was it origionally was thrown by Chris Barnes. I said why not, and bought it for $35.  Had the thumb pluged and moved 1/8in. to fit my span.

So far I've only thrown it 1 game (reg. house shot) and it is very smooth.  C300 says it should clear the heads clean with it snapping on the back end.  But mine acts like it wants to roll early in an arc, then continuously drives through at the break point.  I tried a few diff. lines throwing up 10, 15-10, and in at 20-12 and in.  It carried everywhere!  If i missed a little it made up is ground.  And with a little polish i think it will clear the heads real well if they are a little dry.  all in all i left 2 stone 10's and it was my fault because i didnt come out of the ball like I wanted.  I had two much easy slide on my thumb because I thought it would stick due to freshly being drilled.  I shot 257 with it, and am completely satisfied.  It will be my first ball outa the bag from now on.  Great Ball!!

I got this ball a while back and did not really get it going good.

Drill press in garage and it was cold.

Got set up and really didn't get the thumb clean and wrote a negative post on Columbia forum.  WRONG!

Now that I'm clearing it is a whole different story!

Drilled with the Brunswick principles.  Pick your pin to pap (4 1/4) pick your cg for 3/4 side weight.  5!  Throw and then add weighthole if needed.  No weighthole.
4 1/4 X 5 sort of a near stacked but cg back towards grip variant.

This ball just can't miss.  Carrying everything, no not today if it did I would have been over 700 easy!  But still with LOTS of opens I still shot a respectible set!

This ball because of its cover reminds me of the Sonic X Solid but I believe a touch stronger.  Last year on the condition I'm going to describe I could occassional use the pearl Sonic X!  I could strike but only if I spliced!
My board for than night only or it left something ringing.  This baby like the Sonic X gives me area.  But because of the pearl ...solid looking mix and high polish this ball gets to the breakpoint easy but doensn't go too far.

It frankly looks flush all day.  In other words not skidding too far or two shot.  I had a LOT of comments about how great the look of this ball on the lanes is.(plus it is hot colors)

Due to low flare this ball can scoot pretty good in the heads and mids but then it turns smoothly but hard towards the pocket and for some reason looks flush all the way. No getting behind the head for this one!

Had a little inconsistency tonight and actuall had strikes that swung 8 to 1, 9 to 9 8 to 7 and better.  But this pup despite it's .24 diff gives some smooth powerful backend.

On the adjoining lanes was a lefty having a big set for this house.  He was motoring with big effort a Pit Boss down the lanes.  On the other hand I had less effort to prevent the super jump in this house which seems to happen at 30 feet!  A combination of low flare and highly polished coverstock.

ALso on the other side was the league leader throwing about a one year old Red Pulse clone from Columbia.  I told him he would love thsi ball as a backup because frankly this ball is the same as pulse but the backend while a very powerful one is about 3 boards stronger.  I told him he would love to give himself a little area to do this instead of playing so darn tight with the pulse!  I also found the same thing in relation to the Pirahna, say 2 boards more hook and a less grabby coverstock.

Anyway a winner that I almost vamoosed the first day I threw it.  Thank God I didn't.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS if you've seen other reviews I've done I really like the Hyde also.

the panic is one that is essay to control, yet still provides you with a good hook. if you bowl on heavy oil lanes this ball is not for you. it has good length and hits the pins fairly hard. this is a great ball for any one who wants to start raising their average.

Got this one for dry lanes with the pin and CG stacked in line between the bridge to go long. I got on a good short oil shot with fresh backends to try it on and boy does this ball shine. It doesn't like oil, if you pull a shot it will skate. As long as the ball had a little oil in the heads, and as soon as it reads a dry board rolls up and takes a left turn. I didn't expect it to carry well for being a med-dry ball but hits like a tank carrying better than me detour with this layout. It is my first ball out the bag for any med shot.

Mani house- Lake Bowl Folsom Ca
Lane Type- 1/2 synthetic, 1/2 wood
Oil Pattern- reverse block about 35 feet(very similar to the viper pattern)
Other shots-
Heavy oil
Medium oil
Light oil
Dry

Reverse Bock pattern: this ball preformed very well on these conditions. i played between the 2nd and 3rd arrow. i could get the ball out alittle farther than my other balls because its a snappy ball. the Panic even preformed well when the conditions broke down.

Heavy oil: the Panic isnt made for heavy oil, so this casued so problems. if you got the ball wide it wouldnt come back. played down and in and it worked alright. also with the heavy oil the ball would come in alittle weak sometimes a leave pocket splits.

Medium oil: the Panic preformed well on med oil. again straighter was great with the Panic on med condition. when you thought you got it out of bounds, it snaped back to the pocket. if you pinched it to the left it would hold. the ball cut through the carry down exellently

Light oil: the Panic preformed best on this condition. it went long shot to the pocket. the ball is made for this pattern. the shot i like is around the 15 board, and i couldnt have gotten better results. it was perfect. it hit very hard

Dry: it work good for the first few games, then you would need to move farther in. got to the end of my comfort zone. played that area for awhile(forth arrow). then i would need to throw it father right, which changed the entry angle. not a problem though, it still found its way back home

Hook Potential: i would give this ball a 7 out 10 on hook potential

Control: im giving it a 8 out of 10. it gives you good length and is snappy at the end.

Hitting power: 9 out of 10. this ball hit like a Lanemasters product. it crushed the pocket with unbelieveable force

Over all this is a great medium/med light oil ball. also when carry down started to effect my shot and i left pocket splits, i grabbed this ball and it drove right through the carry down. the Panic is ery clean through front part of the lane with sharp backend.

Drilled this ball with the pin right on my center of grip and kicked the cg out some.  Had a short pin so it did go very far.  Put a small hole in it about 5' straight over from center of grip.  Kept box surface on it.  I actually liked this ball.  It rolled well for me.  I could play straighter with it and carry, and when they dried out I could move left and still carry.  All in all I did like this ball.  I think it could suit many players, it seems to be very versatile.

Good Luck and Good Bowling,
Michael

Likes: Bought ball in SA before ebonite buy-out. Was a blem (long pin, low top weight) Drilled the pin 6" to pap, cg close to thumb. Ball goes long. Rolls up fast and hard. Carries well. I use it on toasty lanes. Not a bad ball. Control and heavy hit. Stay away from the oil.

Dislikes: not much not to like.
