Title: 15lb. Spirit vs. 15lb. Tornado Blue/Violet Tornado
Post by: Ric Clint on June 06, 2003, 09:47:46 AM
***   (I'm talking about the 15lb version of the Spirit which has a dark blue coverstock.)   ***

They both have a High RG (with the Tornado being a little bit higher) and have a similar RG Differential (with the Tornado being a little bit higher, also).

Both balls go long and have a good strong backend.

I heard one time that the Spirit had a very light load particle cover on it, and then another time that it had a "pearl-like" coverstock.

Which one of these ball will handle Carrydown better than the other, and which one has a bigger backend?

My guess is that the Tornado has a bigger backend and it would be better for playing more Inside than the Spirit. And also, that the Tornado would handle Carrydown better... where as, the Spirit I think would maybe squirt, or be skiddish, on the Carrydown.

Am I right??? Or, do I have it backwards???

Thanks!

Personally,I think the Spirit has the bigger backend, but the Tornado handles the carrydown better. When you rev up the Spirit however, it handles carrydown like it's not even there! But you better have some hand. Just my take though.

The Spirit is still useful on oil amounts that will make you need to put the Violet away. The Spirit can handle medium and medium heavy with drillings below the bridge (not necessarily rev leverage); it will hook less and you will need to go more direct but it will hook and carry. By the time you're getting to medium oil amounts, the Violet will not be useful at all and you want to use it without roughing up the surface; but then there are better balls.

The Violet is more for dry to medium dry, no matter how big the backend is.
The Spirit is more for medium-dry to medium. It is more like a polished Tornado Bluefoam (the solid).

I agree with Drunk Alley hooker! it is a wicked ball when sanded. Go with the tornado!

Drunk Alley Hooker & Kevspins2,

Are you both sure that we are talking about the same ball? The Blue/Violet Tornado, NOT the Bluefoam Tornado?

I can't imagine why anybody would want to sand the Blue/Violet Tornado???
