Thank you for the info Bill.  Have not heard anything about them as of yet.  What are the differences from the old ones?

I asked Columbia in an email. All I know now is that the coverstock on the Spirit II will not be the same as on the original Spirit
Too bad. That was a nice ball.

I was told by the Columbia Sales Rep that the Spirit coverstock was the leftover mixture of all the columbia coverstocks.

BBR-Bill:
Not the initial batch. It was adverstised as being a special coverstock in conjunction with BASF. It was 'special' - a great ball. When the initial batch sold so well they capitalized on the name and put out a mish-mash of crapola coverstocks with the Spirit label. That was the mix-n-match that you are refering to. There is nothing special about either the blue or black Spirits that didn't have the swirling in the coverstock. I had a couple of "Good" 16# balls, and they were awesome balls, effective on everything but EXTREME wet or EXTREME dry. I gave them away, and the new owners love them. I have a 15# "Good" Spirit that is a fantastic go-long and come back hard monster. I don't know what the additive was that made it different, but it was different, and effective.

Randy-O,

Any idea of the dates of manufacture of the good/blue vs the bad/black?
I have one and I wonder about drilling it now ...

More like the Good Black and the Bad Blue. There is only one good Spirit coverstock (and I've thrown all versions). The Black with swirls. I took a photo of one and posted on my Wicked BRT review:

If your coverstock is similar to this photo then keep it and drill it (or sell it to me if it's 15#). If it is either a plain blue or plain black then it is just another run of the mill reactive ball.

Mystery meat, mystery ingrediants.

That's right 16 pound black with swirls ripping our tough house to shreds.

Blue duds!

With the differences in ball reaction that differ so much as to be labed "good" and "bad" sounds like a good plan to sell alot of the spirt 2s. People wont know which are the "good" or the "bad" until a number are sold. After the first, do you think people will wait for a lot of these to be sold and then go looking for the "good" ones?

I won't go so far as to say all blue ones are duds. I have two; a 16# and a 15#.
The 16#er definitely hits harder than the 15#er, but what I found was that the 15#er goes longer, buts hits harder if you rev it a little. It seems to need coaxing. Also, if the backends are clean.....lookout.....both these balls swell up like the INcredible Hulk, and come back from anywhere!  With you guys description of the black-swirrly ones, I can't imagine what kind of hit they must have!
