A Tale of Two Rebounds.
« on: June 08, 2005, 04:57:49 PM »
Well So far I've drilled Ricochet Rebound #1.  Both have Identical specs, 3" pins, 2.7oz topweight.  I decided to drill one first instead of doing both at the same time.

I'm went to another grip change to help me stay up under the ball longer(with one hand) and to cut out the excessive tilt that I used to have.  The experiment worked.  With a stretched grip(Span now 4 3/4, with a thumb "Offset" of 1/4 from the T-Line), I am able to stay under the ball alot longer and with Power Oval inserts installed, my revrate(not two handed revrate) has increased dramatically by at least 20-30 rpms(up to around the 320-330range with a traditional release).  The grip/release change converted my track from a previous 3 3/4ths right and 1 1/4 up to 4 11/16ths right and 5/8ths up.

The pin under the bridge is about 4 3/4 from my PAP.  With a 2" shift of the C.G I needed a weighthole since it came out to being 1 5/8ths ounces over on sideweight and 1/2  poisitive finger weight.  I wanted to keep the finger weight at the same statics to I punched a target weighthole(where the C.G ended up moving to after drilling) with a 25/32 bit going 2" deep.

I threw the ball on AMF Synthetics, 2 1/2 years old, on a broken down house shot with a heavy volume of oil in the middle.  I tested them side by side with a Phenom(5" pin to PAP, MB 6 1/2 from PAP; polished), and a Savage(4" to PAP, polished).  On this shot, the Rebound played suprisingly stronger in the oil than both the Savage and the Phenom.  The Savage flared the earliest and the most with about 5 inches in the oil, the Phenom played the straightest through the heads and the most angular on the backend, and the Rebound had a stronger/smoother arc off the breakpoint than the others while giving me 3" of flare in the oil.  With such extreme dry outside of 7board in this house, playing up and around 8-10 with a firm speed gave me a readable reaction through the heads and midlane while giving me the strong recovery on the backend to drive all ten in the pit on almost every pocket shot(1 10pin drop and one Smash 8 pin out of 14 flush pocket shots in 2 games).

When I leaked the ball in the dirt too early, booooy did this thing want to jump.  I mean the slightest sign of dry and this bad boy was charging left with the power of a scud missle, whereas the Savage would flare a ton early and sorta burn its way to the pocket in the dry, and the Phenom would sake a good 3-5 feet longer than the Rebound in the dry.  You may be asking yourself how can the Phenom go longer than the Rebound, well with about 500 games on it, it's very tame by nature and with the 5" pin to PAP and weak MB placement, it acts more like a weaker polished symmetrical resin.

The rebound definately shows its strengths playing in a defined oil line.  I had no problems moving deeper into the oil with it and getting it to cut through the hours of carrydown from open play.  The phenom wanted to squirt from inside and the Savage wanted to stand up too early.  The Rebound gave me a killer look playing up and in around 8-10 and inside 3rd arrow going 17 to 12 in the oil line.  Carry is phenominal, you can see how hard it drives through the deck, powering out the back row.

With the second one that I drill up(I'll probaly pass up on the Puma Classic for awhile), I may just go with a 5 1/2 pin to PAP placement with the pin higher over the fingers just to get a later look on the lanes when this one wants to jump too early off the dry boards.

I have a NIB Sport ball coming and a Columbia Test Ball that I will be reviewing later on this weekend.
