Just how strong/weak is the Jazz???
« on: January 05, 2009, 01:22:49 AM »
I've got a Rival and a High Flush and I'm looking for a ball for a late shift league I bowl in in which the heads are usually gone by the end of the first game.  The Rival (4000 abralon, 4X4 pin on finger line), for the most part, isn't usable on this condition even standing as far left as I can.  I usually start with the High Flush (4000 abralon + polish, 5X4 pin above bridge/cg kicked slightly to right of grip center) but by the time we get to the second game, the only way to play the lanes is to toss it over the gutter or try to overpower the lanes by throwing it 20+ mph, neither of which I can do without destroying my elbow again.  Needless to say, I'm having trouble keeping the ball right of the headpin.

I'm looking at the Jazz.  Will it get down the lane "fairly easily" on this condition and still have enough "pop" on the back end?

Any advice/warnings/coverstock or drilling suggestions for the Jazz???

My stats are in my profile but I haven't updated them in a while.  I've lost some speed since my elbow injury.  I can honestly say that before my injury, my speed out-did my revs...now, my revs out-do my speed (another reason I'm having trouble getting the ball down the lane without premature e-hook-ulation).

I'm also open to other suggestions as well.

TIA

I have a Jazz (only ball I own not Roto Grip) and it should be perfect for what you are looking at. I use mine on the toast and on any broken down pattern and it is a monster.  Will clear the heads easily and surprising strong move and great hit.  I have a 5 x 5 on mine and it has made it's money back and then some. Plus the Orange and Yellow one will draw much attention to it's great look smashing the rack!

(Oh yeah...all my stats in my profile)

Hope this helps!

The Jazz will clear the heads no problem BUT it may not have the pop your looking for or the recovery if your throwing it over the gutter cap!  If you do one make sure to give it a tall pin!!! The cover is fairly strong so that will give it as much pop as possible.

Also another suggestion is the LOUD NOIZE I just had this ball done for the same reason and got to use it this weekend on toast and it worked like a champ lot of length and good amount of pop on the back. We did a 110 degree drilling from PAP

I'm not wanting to throw it over the gutter cap...that's why I'm looking for a ball that will clear the burnt heads easier than what I currently have.

The Loud Noize wouldn't be much different than using my polished High Flush, maybe a little more length due to the pearl cover (everything else is the same core, RG, etc...).  With as early as my HF starts turning, I wouldn't want to chance it.

The Jazz would work but you might struggle to get the corners out when looping the lane with it because the lack of a core. So you might want to look into the Wrath Dead Flush, it won't be much stronger then the Jazz but might get the corners out a little better.

Another option is Rotogrip's Neptune.  It has a good core and gives you good length and an assertive hook with pop on the backend to clear the pindeck.  The Neptune is good on dry to medium oil conditions and will let you stay a bit longer when you play the outside line.  The Jazz is a good ball but has much less of a core to work with and is going to struggle more on medium oil.

i have both the dead flush and jazz, the dead flush is basically a longer version of the loud noize. it is considerably stronger than the jazz. my DF is drilled like ur high flush with the pin over the bridge and CG out and it get down the lane with ease and peels of the spot. the DF is considerably stronger than the jazz. and the jazz needs significant friction to make a move. i would suggest one of the vibes although they may be too strong for what your looking for.

If you have a fair amount of hand the ball is super strong for an entry level ball. I can throw mine after first game in leauge and I am around 14-16 atthe arrows and they are by this point probably a medium oil. I can't throw mine on dry very well but if you have ball speed in the 20's you probably could get away with throwing it, unless you have very large amount of hand.

OK, got my Jazz and had it drilled pin under bridge with the CG directly between the pin and the thumb hole.  Had a chance to throw it this afternoon on a pair of lanes that the senior league had just finished up on.

I think this ball is going to be good fit for the condition I want to use it on...gets good length through "spotty" heads, gives good backend reaction, and has more than enough pop for some nice carry.  I went 219-200-214-183 in the four games I rolled with it (the 183 would have been a 200+ had it not been for two big nasty splits to start the game...pulls through the nose...user error).  I'll definitely take those scores over the 150s and 160s I've been struggling with in the later games of the late league that I specifically got this ball for.  But the great thing is, I'm not going to have to "force it" to get it down the lane which will be much less stress on my elbow.

et a 900 global Link- really good length on dried up patterns OOB, take it to 4000 and you have a great medium oil ball up the boards if you like. Very versatile.
