Over 8 years, comes out to 124,000/yr.
Tiger makes that in endorsements in about 2 days.

That, and...how many bowling ball sales can be attributed to the Amateur/Regional staffers, anyway?

Regional staffers account for more overall ball sales than National staffers.
Grass roots has been proven to sell more balls because seeing a local pro or pro shop guy throw it and do well in your house on your conditions sells more than watching Barnes or WRW, or Parker, or PA throw it on Tour.

Its the same mentality as think globally, act locally!

Not quite sure I would agree with that statement in general.  However, I could see how this *would* be the case for staffers who own or work in pro shops.

Now I *do* agree with this statement, which is probably why I'm seeing so many more "seeds" at the local level.

Brunswick is a different company entirely. I'm not certain but I don't think they have a Tour staffer who makes $125K a year for 8 years.

Columbia has had company-wide layoffs, from management to reps to staffers. I only hope it's a step in the right direction. I was lucky enough to stay on staff, mostly because I own a Pro Shop.

It's a fact that most Amateur/Regional staffers are either Pro Shop owners, work in a Pro Shop (BrunsNick), or are closely associated with a Pro Shop.

It's logical that all of the ball companies align themselves with people who are in a position to sell their equipment.

As far as Barnes goes, good for him. There's only 2 bowlers in the world besides him that could garner that kind of money. TJ and WRWJR will eventually get that kind of money one way or another. It makes good business sense to have a contract so he's guaranteed some kind of income regardless of his success.

Brunswick should give Parker Bohn a million dollar bonus for being Parker Bohn.

How smart is that really... 8 yrs, 1 Million Dollars. Yea great you have that now. But what happens when and if the tour folds and than he cant bowl anything really because he has titles. I am not saying the tour is folding, but you never know what could happen down the road. Just doesn't seem like the brightest idea I have heard. Why not take 4 yrs, Half a Million?!?!

I'd take the 8-year, $1M deal over 4-year $0.5M deal.  What happens if he takes the 4-year deal and the tour folds?  Same thing as if he took the 8-year deal and the tour folds, only if it doesn't, he gets more money over a longer period of time.  Seems like the safe deal to me.

What does having titles mean regarding not being able to bowl anything?  Tournaments often have rules regarding the number of exempt, national touring PBA members allowed, if any, but I don't believe having a title would qualify or disqualify anyone differently.  Even if it is an issue, it would be an issue regardless of his sponsorship.

Sure the only Mega Buck tournament your can bowl is the Super Hoinke. The High Roller states no PBA at all!! The Eliminator states anyone with 2 PBA titles or less may bowl. I don't feel they would be willing to open up the eligibility rule if the tour were to fold! I just don't see it happening. Probably won't be able to bowl the USBC Championships, I don't know maybe you could.... Lets just say alot of MAJOR tournaments that aren't PBA, they wouldn't be allowed to bowl. I wasn't refering to your mom and pop weekend tournaments for $600.

Point taken.  Doesn't mean his sponsorship deal was bad.  I'd take 8-year security over 4-year security any day.  He would have the same problem regarding tournament eligibility even if he weren't on any staff.  Besides, there are probably plenty of amateur or regional staff members bowling those high-dollar tournaments with no problems.

I can't believe you even question a bowler signing for a million to begin with!  How many people do you know that are gonna make that much money over the next eight years, much less a professional bowler???  Chris is smart, with the money he has made, this deal sets him and Lynda up for life.  Every other PBA Member would have taken this deal in a heartbeat, it has only happened once before ever!!  If the tour folds, which it is not going to, it is an endorsment deal, Columbia would still pay him the money, Chris would still endorse their products.  Puuuhhllleeeeaazzzeee!

I'm not sure he'd want to meet anyone who drools over him and calls him "The Parker".  Since you seem a little too....exicted....about him.

I would be happy if they made the deal, but their was one exception.

He had to change his attitude. He is really full of himself, and thats why I do not like seeing him play.

You could avoid mall traffic by signing up to bowl a pro-am, if you're in or near a city where the tour stops

This is blasphemy!  Her giant mole and witchy hag look should disqualify her from being THE Parker.  She looks good sometimes, but other times she looks like the wicked witch of the west without the green skin.

Back on the Barnes subject.....

With him under contract Columbia is hitting much more than just the television audiences.....

I think with him being involved with the USBC Sport division would be an added plus for Columbia. It is all about exposure.

-Carl

PS- It doesn't hurt that he was on staff with "b" for years.....and since joining Columbia 300 he has won a load of money.

Barnes should have signed a short term contract.  This way when he starts winning more he could ask for more than 124K per year.  That money wont be a lot 8 years from now.
