Okay guys, this is going to sound a little hair brained, but I received a test ball (Bonanza II) from Beans that appears to be a Black/Red Scout.  When I took it to my pro shop and had him spin it on the DeTerminator to see if it would stabilize it did.  It consistently stabilized in 10 seconds.  He layed the ball out with the pin above the bridge and didn't see the typical pancake style weight block.  I'm not sure what ball this is anymore and would like your help.

If anyone has a 15# Scout in their shop and has access to a DeTerminator I'd be curious to see how fast they stabilize, if they even do at all.  This may also turn out to be a Jekyll as a few people have chimed in.

Thanks...

I emailed columbia with a serial number and they said there was no way to know from the serial number.

At least you got a response!  My Bonanza's actually have 2 serial numbers - 1 in the Bonanza label area, and another on the other side of the ball (normal serial number location??)

Resurrecting this thread - J_Mac, how does this ball react for you?  Did you ever come to a conclusion on what this ball is?  Just got one myself that I'm going to drill up on Saturday, and was just curious what to expect.  I'm going to drill pin under ring finger, kicked out slightly, with the cg kicked out a few inches.

The ball I have looks exactly like the one in your pic, and from what I've seen, looks most like a Jekyl to me.

Thanks,

Jeromie

As I've worn the polish off this ball it has gotten stronger, but I have no idea what the coverstock is.  Is the Accelerator coverstock stronger than SuperFlex but smoother through the transition from oil to dry?   If that's the case it might be a Drive that's missing the blue.  Otherwise it's a Jekyll coverstock around a core with some mass bias.

Have it drilled 5.5 stacked which may not be a great asset to whatever core it has but that's not a drill I use very much so I'm not sure if it's smooth from the layout or the coverstock.  It is pretty friendly to hand adjustments though.

Or maybe a Freakazoid?

possibly a Thrash also...

doesn't look like any Columbia Ball i've ever had, and definitely not a Jekyll (not even close) or a Drive (not even close)

It's anyone's guess now.  I've heard Columbia doesn't handle inquiries on Bonanza's.  Kind of disappointing in a way because I wouldn't mind getting another one of these as a first just to compare how much the low top weight affects the reaction.

It's also been amusing to hear everyone's wild ideas as to what it is.  Probably just a small run of an idea that someone thought would work for something and didn't do what they expected.  Sort of like the Hex Darkside.

By the color of the ball in the picture you posted, I dont see how anyone could think it was anything BUT a Drive.  Its almost dead on.  I'm thinking either the color was a little off or the 1 oz of top weight got the Bonanza label.  I've spun plenty of Alter Ego's and Drives, and they all range in that 8-10 second range.  I promised myself I wasnt going to care if you found out, but I got tired of seeing all these posts going nowhere.

the Bonanza 2 I just got from Beans looks exactly like a polished GP2 but it has a considerable amount of silver in the ball. The orange and blue are the exact colors in the GP2 but mine has some silver and is polished...

could it be that I got lucky???? Specs are great...2-3" pin and top weight around 2-1/2 oz

Sure you could have gotten lucky, but to be safe I'd spin it on a DeTerminator and double check the CG.
