BTM Magazine / Ransom Demand
« on: August 01, 2011, 11:22:46 PM »
Hey Columbia guys and gals, BTM really loved the new Ransom Demand with their review in this months edition. They are usually pretty generic and stick to what the company says about the ball but they were ecstatic about the Ransom Demand. I have never seen such high ratings by all three testers (stroker, tweener, cranker). They all gave it a 9 1/2 in oil and a 9 for medium oil and I have never seen that in the 10 or so years that I have received the magazine. They have definitely peaked my interest and I haven't thrown Columbia products in 8-10 years. I am definitely going to give this little jewel a try. FYI they have it right there with Storms Nano with length, back end, and hook. Is it August 18th yet???

No offense, but why would you need a ball like that when you already have the Pure Physics and the World Beater in your current lineup? And from folks ive talked too who have seen and thrown the ball, they werent overly impressed with it.

Not bashing in any way, just wondering on the purpose, or hole this ball is supposed to fill...

I have thrown the Rasom Demand and was fairly impressed with how the ball reads the lanes and continues through the pins. This another addition to the Columbia line-up that allows bolwers to have options. Do you want to score with the World Beater or Ransom Demand? Either way you can't go wrong.

I threw one at a demo day during my leauge. Was so thoroughly impressed by its length and hitting power I ordered one. Keeps pins low and gives very good mix. Continues to drive one it enters the pocket.

JJ, I feel that the Ramson Demand will be a good release...But BTM's review may be a stretch...

Comparing this ball to the Nano is like comparing a White Sox  to the 27 Yankees...

The Nano has earned all of the respect it gets...

Time will tell on the RD....

But IMO, BTM's reviews sometimes are a stretch...

And in most cases all ball companies over hype their newest releases...

Remember a ball called the World Beater...  Need I say anymore...

It got it's name, because they felt it was a World Beater...

Now it is a decent ball and we have sold it well...

But in the famous words of that Texas Senator...

"You ain't no JFK"       "Nano"

This review is worth quoting.  They write:

The best quality of the Ransom Demand is the ability to use it on nearly any type of pattern. The ball performed at high levels on nearly all our test patterns...

With the proper layout and surface preparation, there is little this ball can't do...

The Ransom Demand is one of the best performing bowling balls we have seen to date.

Now the Nano and a number of other excellent balls didn't get ratings like this. I'm definitely interested in the ball.

This may be true...However the Nano was not meant to perform on drier shots...

But on the shot it was designed for, it performs well...

THe RD will be a good ball...

I agree with jls about the companies hyping new balls and BTM goes along with them quite well for the most part. I put a lot more faith in BTM 5 years ago as compared to now with their ratings. I feel they just go along with what the ball company says about the new release.

This review really caught my eye because ALL 3 testers gave the ball the same rating and that usually doesn't happen plus they couldn't decide if they liked it more on the oil shot or the medium shot. All 3 testers ended up giving it a 9 1/2 in oil and a 9 for medium. I am just saying I have never seen that in the 10 + years that I have received the magazine.

I doubt Columbia is real happy with them because they rated this upper-mid priced ball better than the High Performance World Beater.

Time will tell on the Ransom Demand and my whole point of this topic was that this was one UNIQUE review by BTM. Full swing core and a new Super tilt solid 2.0 cover stock.

We will see if the masses like the ball as much as BTM did.

I too was amazed by the ratings the testers gave it. I've never seen that before.

After reading the review, I can't wait to see this ball in action. I might have to pick one up.

I think this ball will do well...If used on the right condition...I just hope all the souped up hype doesn't come back

and hurt this ball...Cause no ball "walks on water"...

Can't wait for the usual backlash of people when the ball doesn't strike every time or just rolls ok. The blame will go to the driller, the center, the company ect ect ect.
Should be interesting if it doesn't live up to the unusual expectation put out so quickly.

Columbia posted an actual copy of the review to their facebook page...... don't think they're too upset with the it if they did that
