I won a Melt Down on Columbia 300's FB
« on: November 19, 2014, 07:44:51 PM »
I won a FB contest on C300 FB page and am waiting on a Melt Down.  It couldn't happen at a better time as my current ball is nearly dead with 300 games plus on it and I can't afford to get anything new until after the holidays.  Thank you Columbia 300!

It also looks like a good ball for me.  I'm a high speed/low rev bowler so I'm hoping the 2000 surface on that coverstock really digs in for me.

This dull ball turns the corner downlane big time.

fwiw 300 games is not that many on a ball. get it rejuvenated and resurfaced for 50 bucks and it will be like new

Thank you Cheech!  I did just have that done and it seems to be almost new.  I just keep thinking it won't last much longer.

Any suggestions on an EBI brand ball to go under the Melt Down for when the oil starts to go away?

There are a lot of medium oil options under the Ebonite brands. I like track a lot but I really like what Columbia has done lately. I'd go with the Eruption Pro Hybrid

I was able to get a Black Friday deal on the Orange Eruption Pro today.  I hope it works well.

I think the Eruption Pro Orange or Eruption Pro Hybrid are good choices for medium oil for bowlers with matched speed/revs.  Considering that Ratt has higher ball speed and a lower rev rate, I would suggest something stronger for medium oil.  If you're *really* high speed, I would go with a Disorder, as that will get into a roll almost as soon as the Melt Down.  If you're just a bit speed dominant, I would go for a Throw Down, Smack Down, or Take Down.  Smack Down was just discontinued and is a hybrid of the Throw/Take, so that might be the most logical choice price wise.

You will be more than fine with the eruption pro.... As long as you have a competent driller than he should be able to watch exactly what you need for the perfect reaction when the meltdown starts to burn up.   I cant recommend a layout not knowing anything other than speed dominant, but keep in mind alot of high speed/low rev players have low tilt, which will in essence make you more matched as it will grab it will reach the first transition much sooner than a high tilt bowler.

Again that might not be the case as i dont know your tilt. Just an observation.   But if your worried that the eruption pro might be too weak, just go with a low rg/high flare drilling (i.e. Larger val angle and pin to pap near 3-3.75").

Just my 2cents
 Good luck bud
