I had a solid Purple Beast. It was a solid Reactive (Tec2 cover?) with a lightbulb core. In its day a very good ball. very predictable roll. Obviously would still be a great rolling ball but, by today's standards not overlay aggressive.

This ball has been the subject of much conjecture. It seems that, when this ball was first released, it was merely a urethane ball with a bulb shaped weightblock.

 Then, after a bit, Columbia decided to make it into a mildly reactive ball, and changed it over without really telling anyone the difference.

 It has been said by some that you can tell one version from the other by the number of teeth between the fangs on the logo, but I never knew for sure if that was accurate or not.

 The original release was regular urethane, which was later changed to a flexel reactive coverstock, but the weightblock stayed the same.

The BeastMaster was most likely the last "Beast" released.  That was the one that used the TEC2 particle cover.  

I believe they made polyester Beasts as well, but those were just 3 piece balls made to compliment the Beast as a spare ball.

I know where an undrilled 14# Beast LTD can be found...

Interesting points...flexcel does ring a bell on the purple reactive solid...I also remember a purple version that replaced the original that had mica in the cover...also a pearl reactive.

The first Beast was a powder blue urethane. The second one was the Flexcell (basically a urethan/resin hybrid by my understanding) and was purple.

This was a wonderful ball in its day. Shot my first 300 with the purple one.

You will need to be more specific about which you have because as others have noted there were many later releases. There was a particle, a Beast/c, a reissued one with Superflex, Beast pearl, and BeastMaster. (maybe more)

The reissued version had a bit of a flake in the cover if I recall correctly was the way to tell them apart. Never heard of the fang thing but could be another clue.

there was also a superbeast as well. it was pearlized, and somewaht more backend than the regular beast.

a few of them were purple!!! on a side note if anyone has one single drill or NIB of the pearl mica in 15 lbs. PM me!!!!

For many years after this series, the "Beast Core" was used in Columbia 13 pound balls as the "generic core". It was also seen in Track 13 pound balls of the period as the "Rocket Core."
