Carmen Salvino owns the patent?
« on: January 13, 2006, 02:44:31 AM »
Carmen Salvino own the patent on the epoxy cover?  I thought this ball went thru 8 years of development and was designed by columbia.  Carmen Salvino is from Chicago.  I have a mutual friend that knows him well.  From what I heard this guy was always trying to get equipment for free from various pro shops because he was a pro.  I also heard that he was trying to develop a bowling ball.  I had no idea that he invented the epoxy ball.  Well he shouldn't be broke anymore.  This patent should have made him a millionaire.
Columbia said that this cover cost a lot of money over many years to develop.

Salvino has many patents on bowling equipment.  heere is just one of many as an example.  http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4320899.html

This is nothing new...for him.  He is always working on something.  For Chicago boys...Remo Pichetti and he are two of the industry's leaders in innovation.

Some of those patents are pretty cool.  If you look throught them you can find the old JPF Axe, the original Piranha, what looks like the beginnings of the Phantom, and some other interesting designs.

As to Salvino, he really knows a lot about bowling balls.  He was working on the epoxy cover for a long time.  Remember the CSI (Carmen Salvino Industries) Hypower and Wildfire of the early 90s.  These were Carmen's early attempts of creating his own reactive coverstock.  They were good balls, really durable, but they never really caught on.  I still remember the hype they got after Steve Jaros threw the Hypower on TV.
