there has been a little confusion around here that i kinda want to clear up.  me and some friend have been debating on the if the first 2 icons were particle or if they were reactive resin.  i think they were particle just that they weren't that heavy of a load.  does anyone know for sure if they are particle or not?

I asked this question in an email to Columbia. Their response was that the Icon & Icon2 Muscle coverstock is 'particle' but not in the traditional sense. If you compared the particles in a previous TEC series coverstock to the new 'Muscle' coverstock, it would be like comparing a basketball to a pencil tip. It's almost more of an additive than a particle. The Icon2 has less of this 'particle additive' than the original Icon, giving a cleaner look through the heads and a stronger back end reaction. Having thrown both, I will vouch for that. I get a very similar look between my Wicked BRT and the Icon2 (of course, having the same core might have a bit to do with that).

Columbia300's Muscle coverstock used on the Icon's are particle.  The particles are much smaller (0.3 microns?) than the Rock or Choas series

Yes, in fact they are particles. But the Icon has more particles than the Icon 2. They gave the Icon 2 less particles to give it the longer roll, and hard back end snap. But beware, after 50 games, it will no longer roll long and break hard. It will start hooking like a reactive resin.

I believe the company line that they are much smaller particles int he Icon line. BUT I've had high gloss resin pearls that were less flippy than my Icon2. I will stick with SuperFlex balls like the Wicked (and others) until I need control ball for heavy oil, then I'll seek out a particle ball.
