I've been throwing the Formula...
« on: December 07, 2003, 09:16:42 AM »
I've been throwing the formula this weekend, and it's really something else.

The ball is very smooth and even. it reads dry smoothly and not over reacting on a Typical House shot. the ball is not good for carrydown at all though. the ball lacks a bit of backend pop. On long oil the ball is a bit too skiddy, and on shorter oil it was much better. The ball is a good bench mark ball, not a Low Rg ball tho but smoothness that was lacking in columbia's line up. Great for mediums, and some shorter heavy patterns. but not for carrydown. and even not your first choice for a house shot.

Thats cool that it rolls well for you, but to me it seems like its going to be alot like the original Icon, which is a great thing seeing as how I throw that ball the most, just wish the formula would've had a little more back, or a little more midlane read to separate the two a little more.

Well i threw the original icon a little too and i found it to be very similar to the formula now that i think of it. but i found the icon with a light wet sanding to 600 can handle more.

Hey Dude,

I agree, when I hit my Icon with some surface, it did read in the oil much better...but have you tried sanding your formula to 600 too, heh, I'd be shocked if it was much different from the Icon sanded that way.  It seems numerical wise that the formula is just designed to read the midlane a little more than the Icon was.

I did have it dulled for a little bit cause i plugged the thumb and changed it but i just put polish on it again
i finished the ball at 600 and then about 1500 polish i remember correctly.

the ball doesn't have a huge amount of mid-lane but it's more than typical columbia balls do. i found the icon polished it was very sharp on the break point, more than the formula could be. My formula is drilled 4 x4 for me, and i usually don't stack balls but on the recommendation of my friend he said pick a strong but not an early pattern of the ball, 4x4 is a layout i don't have in my bag at the momment. for me it's sort of a combination of the icon and icon 2 but not the backend they both had. ball is just purely smooth.

Finished throwing the ball this weekend, again. Very nice results. I was playing on a medium, house shot with drier outsides. on amf synthetices, i'm not sure the brand of oil because it has been changed again, but it holds well, but it's easier to get the ball to finish through the middle.

Ball was strong and finished smooth, arcing backend and reading the dry very strongly but not jumpy off the friction. i'd say it's like a V2 sanded, but polished, with a little less mid-lane.
