need ball suggestion
« on: December 27, 2008, 02:46:16 AM »
I am a lefty bowling on a typical house condition.  I am currently throwing an old red pulse weekly with the most success.  In fact, just had 835.  But the ball is not getting any newer.  I need to find a replacement.  I also have an Action that hooks like crazy.  I want something that is as controllable and in the same "hooking" family as the pulse.  The newer aggressive balls don't seem to fit my style.  Would appreciate any help.

Not in the Columbia line but will give you the reaction shape you are looking for:

The 900 Global "Creature" is basically the same ball as the Pulse without the ceramicore in the middle. Not even the "new" columbia uses the ceramicore technology. The Rivals in the Columbia line do create too much friction with the lane to give you the same reaction shape you're looking for. For more info you can PM me at any time.

Bo,
Thanks for the correction. I wondered about the Rival with its hype as being super versitle. What about Visionary's Ogre Solid?

lefty,

To find something that will be pretty similar to the Pulse, you would need to steer towards something lower end. Ball like the Street Rod Solid would work.  You are not going to find many balls with diffs in the .026 area (Pulse's diff) in todays world.  You would need to go with a solid coverstock and something lower end to get something similar.

emerald vibe, should backend too hard for you, hit it with 4000 abby to tame it down.  I'de recommend around 4 1/2 to 5 from pap.  move the pin below the fingers to cut down on backend rxn.  this drilling should create a nice arch-y rxn and not over/under on you on that pesky house shot.

something like this...

___________(o) (o)
_____________O
___PAP

_____________( )

I mean no disrespect here.  But the Emerald will be nothing like the Pulse.  The Pulse is a dull solid with a low diff core.  The Emerald is a pearl with a diff of .042.  Even with the pin down drilling, it will be nothing like a Pulse.  Keep it simple and go with another solid reactive with a lower differential core.  After looking at the number on the Bash by Ebonite, the numbers are very similar.  The Bash has a differential of .025 which is the same as the Pulse.  After reading up on that ball, I think the Bash is the way to go.  The site does not list the Red/Black Bash as a pearl like the Purple/Yellow was.  Look into it.  It is also pretty easy on the wallet as well.

lefty,

Another thought is also the Avalanche Solid by Brunswick.  It has the older core of the Teal Rhino Pro with the extremely popular PowerKoil 18 cover.  The numbers are similar to the Pulse as well with the lower .026 differential.

I would go with one of those two balls, the Bash or the Avalanche.  You will not get much closer than those two balls.  Hope this helps.

I agree with what has been said, either a 900G Creature Solid, Brunswick Avalanche Solid, or an Ebonite Bash

Try the Arch Rival.  To me, it is similar to my red Pulse although maybe with a little more backend.  It's one of the best balls I've bought in the past few years.

Hope this helps.

If you don't like Ebonite, I agree with TwoHand that the Brunswick Avalanche Solid would be the ball of choice for the ball reaction you are seeking.
