Orange Dot
« on: December 11, 2003, 07:08:28 AM »
Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone knows exactly what kind of cover was on the Orange Dot.  A few years ago I heard talk that it was a plastic/particle ball, before anyone knew what a particle ball was.  I've also heard that it was a rubber ball, and a urethane ball.  To me it almost looks like a rubber ball with mica in it.  Does anyone know the real answer?

Someone is getting the Orange Dot and the Gold Dot mixed up.  The Orange Dot had a LARGE orange dot on the ball and it was black rubber.  The Gold Dot was made out of Pearlathane (I'm guessing that was Columbia's way of saying PEARLized urATHANE).

On that note, anyone know where I can get an undrilled Gold Dot?

The orange dot is plastic and particle cover mix and it is also brown.Columbia said so in a seminar they had a few years back when the chaos first came out. I have a 15lb undrilled orange dot sitting in my pro shop.

I had an Orange Dot many years ago and I remember it as being brown, not black.

The three that I have are all Brown with a big orange dot above where the fingers normailly would be.  I'm glad I'm not the only one who heard the particle thing.

The Orange Dot was brown plastic ball with a large orange dot.  Many said it was "turd" brown.  Very ugly ball.  I remember hearing that it had mica.  Don't know if that technically makes it a particle ball though...

Thanks for the respnses guys.  I was hoping to use my 15 pounder at the Plastic only tourney in Feb. and wanted some kind of confirmation on if it is plastic or not.

I've never played in a plastic only tournament. Do they also allow the old rubber balls or are they strict about the plastic rule?

This is the first one I have seen in a while.  It is supposed to be any plastic ball, Buzzsaw xxxl's, clear wolves, etc.  But no rubber, urethane, reactive or particle.  There is a post about the tournament in the misc. section.  I think it's called Old School Tournament or something like that.  It's in Feb. in Kankakee, Il.

Thanks for the link.  He's whoI got the 15 pound Orange Dot from.  He had it posted as a rubber ball, but from the two 16 pounders I already have, I was pretty sure that it wasn't.  Seeing it listed as rubber is what started me thinking that the plastic/particle thing was a crock.  But if it came from Columbia, than that's all the confirmation I need.

If I remember correctly, the orange dot came out just after the first "Edge" and around the same time as the AMF angles.  (I know for sure I had my Orange dot before my purple Angle - which I got through my Dad's PBA initial offer)

I still have my orange dot and even threw a 268 in league with it last season.  Not sure if it is particle, but (again, to my knowledge) it is a urethane ball.
