Polishing a Big Bully
« on: February 22, 2006, 11:57:13 PM »
My Big Bully has been sitting in my bag unused for months.

The best reaction I ever got out of it was at a center where I played straight up outside 5.  It had a nice backend and was very predictable.

I can't do that, in OOB, at the center I bowl league at - it's a medium house shot.

I'm thinking about polishing the Big Bully up to around 2000 as I've been thinking about getting a mild reactive to play outside 5 with.  The BB has proved to not be a heavy oil ball as was advertised - definitely not enough backend to move inside with.

Has anyone here tried it with heavy polish?

Thanks!
Dave

I have one I keep sanded and one that I polish with Black Magic. I have used the polished to play all angles. I like the reaction of the polished after it gets a little track in it better than fresh off the spinner. The sanded I seldom use on house conditions, mainly a tournament ball.

I didn't polish my BB, but just put it on the spinner with a 4000 grit Avralon pad. It LOOKS polished but it is not! Provides great length for the condition you describe. Good luck!

I'm sure you meant 4000 grit since that's what you have in your profile. ;-)

I've have it at 2000 grit with polish and will try it out this weekend; if it's not what I'm looking for, I'll try the 4000 without polish.

Thanks!

Just got back from practicing; tried two games with the Big Bully at 2000 grit with polish; still reacting too soon without much backend.  Went to the proshop looking to take the cover to 4000 abralon without polish - they don't have 4000 grit in their shop.  I had them take it to 2500 grit with no polish; I'll try that tomorrow morning.  Guess I'll be making a trip to the hardware store to pick some 4000 abralon up!  It seems that this Big Bully is dead.

Pulled out my 3D Superhook (at 1500 grit with polish) for comparison; the 3D hooked several boards more; I played a couple boards further left with it and it had much more backend - not a hard arc still, but definitely harder than the BB.

I'm getting my Centrifugal Mass back on Tuesday; can't wait to try something strong and new!

Mine hooks nowhere near what it did when the ball was new.  It is now a strong-hitting ball with length for dry conditions.
