Action Max Drilling
« on: May 12, 2007, 12:50:21 PM »
Hey guys i just got a Brand new action max from Mike Wolfe on here and i threw it a couple frames and didnt like the reaction.  Here is a pic of the layout he put on it.  Bear in mind he and i have the same span just the thumb is a lil tight.  I am looking for a more agressive reaction from this ball and the layout on there now is not very agressive when i throw it.  I have seen this ball move like a monster by some of the guys i bowl with.  Please give me some imput.  Thanks.

Heres the Drill Pic:

well what's your pap?? how do you throw it?? pending on what your style is this could be a strong drill or even a weak drill?

If you are more off the back of the ball this will not react very strong but in you come off the side of it a bit more it will be stronger.

It just all depends on how you throw it.  Personally this is one of my favorite drills...good luck.

Well my style is I am a cranker.  Good Revs with bout 15mph or more.  Used to throw mostly cross lane now playing more of a straight line due to my most recent injury with my hand.  I am not sure of my PAP off hand i can find out tomorrow when i go to my driller.  but as far as the reaction i get with that ball its not really agressive.  I was throwing it with more of a straight line or so and it was going long and then flipping towards the pocket.  Wasnt a very strong move but it was decent not great though.  like i said in my original post i have seen this ball hook like a monster well mine doesnt and thats what i want.  basically i want the ball to roll out like my action and then snap hard(Strong Flip) on the back end.  let me know

Well let me know what your axis is but this ball is not a skip snap ball.  The design of this ball was to read the mids strong with a continues back end motion.

Alright no prob ill find out tomorrow but i didnt mean i wanted a skid flip ball but the way is was drilled when i throw it the ball rolls down the lane nice then it seems to turn over kinda.  I want the ball to roll out like the action and then have the powerful backend of the action packed(almost like a pipe hit the ball and instantly change direction towards the pocket.  I may try and get a video of my aproach and me throwing the ball tomorrow if i can.

That will work but I'll let you know the Max isn't a big change of direction ball.  Packed is much stronger down the lane than Max.

hey pockets,

well, from looking at your pic, i couldn't quite make out where the finger holes were but i'll assume that the pin is under your fingers, otherwise you have a fairly strong layout.  before you plug and redrill the ball, try playing with the coverstock first and see if the weight hole you have could be adjusted.  you could always drill it bigger or deeper and that might affect the backend a little bit.  not all weight holes are drilled the same size.  see if that helps.

My action max is drilled pretty similar. The weight hole is placed low on my val. The reaction is very strong especially through oil. You may want to check that weight hole in conjunction with your pap.

That is a drilling if one has a "normal" pap of say 5 1/2 from grip center that is known for smoothness.

If one goes to the Brunswick drill sheets this drill is for smoothing out harsh wet dry!

Not a strong drill.

A very even reacting drill.

REgards,

PS with stronger pin position this ball is a monster!

I say this very cautiously and respectfully, butttt
do you realize that you just defined "Skid/snap"?
and the Max is NOT a skid/snap type of ball BECAUSE of the rough surface of the cover and overall strong nature of the ball. Its intended use is for medium-heavy to heavy oil.

You make it more skid/snap by altering the cover but then it won't handle such heavy oil, OR if you are a true cranker.
