They are both great balls. You can get a pretty good deal on ebay for a new wrath sf. As far as other options go, it depends on what type of conditions you bowl on. For me, the wrath sf performs better on lighter patterns in box condition. I am sure if I took it down to 2000 it could handle a fair amount of oil. I dont own a doom so you might want to ask some of the hammerheads about it.

for what purpose? why?
explain yourself.
There are 3,000 balls out there. Every ball is a good ball for something.

I think the Rival would be ideal for this situation.  I've heard alot of good things about it and that it is very versitile to use on a wide number of condition types.  Of course for some people it may need some surface adjustments, but it seems like a good "benchmark" ball to use.

It's obvious that you are just starting out, and you probably don't know alot of the information some of these bowlers are looking for (PAP location, ave. # RPM's, etc).  But that is something you will learn later.  I would talk with your ball driller and have him watch you bowl, tell him that you were thinking about the rival (or wrath, or a hammer doom), and see if he thinks it will match up well for you.  He may suggest a different ball for you.  Either way that will probably be better because its a way for someone to get a little more hands on with you to find whats right for you.

Later,
