Title: Rock Pearl or Classic Rock?
Post by: AdrianS on October 30, 2003, 09:12:03 AM
I've tracked down a couple of these 2nd hand, what are the main differences between these 2? Whichever one i get will have to fit next to a soon to arrive EMB pearl(which will either be drilled 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 or label) to make up my particle arsenal('bout time i had one!!).

BTW. The EMB has a 2" pin, the Classic a 2.5" pin and the Pearl Rock a 3.5" pin, to help you guys out with layout advice to avoid having an overlap. Main conditions they would be used on would be from the usual 50-60 units inside, 10 outside pattern or another house that has a 60 inside, 20 outside tournament pattern, they wouldn't be going near my leauge condition and only to a couple of wood houses that i bowl tournies at.

Adrian, I don't know what you mean by second hand.  Frankly, having owned a Classic Rock or two, a Rev and a couple of other balls, I wouldn't buy a used Columbia TEC or TEC2 unless it had less than 20 games on it.  Now, on pure performance between these two, the Classic Rock was better for me, kept polished it got through the heads cleanly, and was predictable at the breakpoint.  I wasn't impressed with the Rock Pearl.

We had a guy in our league.  Lefty throws a strong ball.

He got a second hand Rock Pearl.  It was drilled right.  He switched to lefty label.

First set 742, second 697, third 727.  Previous year average = 192.

He likes it! My impression is the times I've bowled with others is it does not have a sharp backend but a very smooth one for a pearl.

His label leverage drilling of 3 3/4 X 5 really seemed to be a great combo for this ball.  Giving it the most backend this ball could supply.

Actually Phillip, 2nd hand and used mean the same thing(here in Australia anyway!).  The Classic has 20 games on it, the Pearl only 5. They should still have plenty of pop in them whichever one i get.

I think I just figured out who superman is.

A former poster who always referred to
C300 as garbage.

Go to post "Does anyone care about Columbia any more?"

Even worked out how to drill them now too!

The EMB got punched 3 3/8 x 4 1/2, hole on PAP, the Rock Pearl will get the pin 2" from PAP with cg at grip centre, the Classic Rock will wear a 5x5 drill, no overlaps, no probs!!!
