Total Bedlam...my thoughts
« on: February 24, 2010, 04:35:00 AM »
So, I finally got around to drilling up my total bedlam.

35 x 4 x 35
Specs in profile.

Being a high speed player, I wanted something that would read oily lane conditions.  Before throwing the ball I changed the surface to 2000 abralon(1000 grit paper), mostly b/c I didn't want to have trouble duplicating the box finish.

House #1:
Medium oil, good backends
--I only tossed about 15 shots with the ball and it was certainly stronger than my Momentum Swing.  I was playing around 3rd arrow out to 10 board.  It made a good read and strong arc to the pocket.

House #2:
Oily, somewhat wet/dry
--I couldn't get the TB to move much.  It would make a late move and carry sucked.  I couldn't get the corners out.  If I got near the track area, it would read early and over hook. With my ball speed, I need more surface to play the oil here.

House #3:
Med oily, soft blend, tends to get very wet dry
--Changed the surface to P800 prior to league
--I tried the TB in practice and wasn't that thrilled.  I immediately knew I had too much surface for this pattern.  I put it away until the 3rd game when the track opened up and I could get into the puddle more.  Once that happened, the TB gave me a look I haven't had all year.  I was able to play the oil, get a nice soft read off the dry boards.  Carry was pretty good, only a couple of soft tens where I didn't catch it all at the bottom.

So far, my thoughts are it is strong, which I wanted.  I still think I can dial in the surface alittle better.  That early rolling layout with 800 grit read the lane very quickly.

I threw the Total Bedlam at a demo day last Friday. For not fitting all that well,  the ball was very strong for me. Got downlane, strong midlane and quick transition on the backend. Compared to the Pure Swing, I was easily 10 boards inside of where  the Pure Swing looked good. Washout city with Pure, both with the same layout. Total looked pretty good, and I would definitely consider buying it. Hooks a lot but was pretty controllable and came back from everywhere. Recovery was probably the most impressive thing about the ball.

The Total Bedlam is very underrated IMHO.  However, you must and I mean must, have oil to throw this monster!

Oil we got!

Man, this ball flares I ton.  I have a LARGE separation in my flare rings and I'm flaring over the weight hole, which I have done in years.

Interesting. I also haven't done that in years. The last ball I did that with was my old Track Mean Machine. If I was able to bowl, i'd be interested in picking up a Total Bedlam just for that reason. I like to experiment

Good luck with it!

The ball really looks great to me. I have just bowled one set with it so far, and I really liked what I saw. Mine is drilled pin under bridge, and even with pin under the back-end on it is amazing. I also agree with the flare comments I have never seen so much flare on a ball of mine. If I had bought this first I would not have bought a Mission.

Missed league last week due to work, but used the Total Bedlam last night.  I took the surface back to 1000 grit paper, which is pretty close to 2000 Abralon.  The resulting ball reacting was alittle longer, same stand up arc with exceptional carry.  The ball didn't jerk off the dry area, but rolled at hit in the oil.

268-277-238 for 783.  I did change balls 3rd game, b/c I lost my look alittle with the TB.  It became alittle too early to touch the track, but not aggressive enough to play the oil.
