Title: Vow
Post by: vindo27 on April 11, 2013, 12:47:08 AM
Thinking about gettin a vow for summer but having tough time convincing myself to go away from storm/ roto. Haven't had much luck with other stuff in the past three years. Doesn't seem to be that much talk of this ball on this or any other sites. Really need a good pearl for my bag and it doesn't seem like pearl disturbed gonna be comin for awhile. Any thoughts or input on this piece would be appreciated.

Just because you'd like to "try" a strong pearl from another company doesn't mean you're getting away from Storm/RG.

However if you need a strong "POLISHED" pearl or pearl-like ball, try polishing a Defiant Soul (2/3 pearl, 1/3 solid) or Lucid.

If you'd like to try an Ebonite Int'l strong pearl/pearl-like ball, there's the First Blood and the Champion.

The Vow is a great ball with a great read on the lane. It is clean in the front of the lane and has a nice reaction on the backend.

I think you would really enjoy the Vow, It does everything you would want from a pearl and stays really controllable instead of getting super snappy. If you get one you will not be unhappy with your purchase that's for sure.

And there is nothing wrong with trying a ball that's not storm or roto.. Matter of fact you are crazy not too.. If you are not being paid to throw their equipment or on staff with them. You are only missing out on the best of every ball manufacture.. Every company has its strong points take advantage of them all!
Might be surprised how much EBI you will find in your bag now days lots of awesome and very useful tools coming out of them.

Let us know how you like your new Vow if you get it!

I will be brutally honest with you:  I'm not much for pearl balls I've found -- my faves are all solids (and 1 Hybrid).  I HATED the Violent Eruption with the first drilling I used (pin up with a hole) because it was the MOST SKID-FLIPpy ball I'd ever thrown (I can't control 90 degree angles very well  :P).  Needless to say I was a bit skeptical with the Vow.  I had heard a lot of good talk about the ball from the Tour Boys that used the Vow during the WSOB (yup, every EBI guy was throwing a Vow, even the Real Deal Bill Oniel), as they all tauted that this was MVP of WSOB by a landslide (out-performed even that Gold thing Storm has been selling).

I drilled my Vow with pin in my ring finger and MB close to the thumb with a decent size hole close to the MB....  WOW!!  My Vow CERTAINLY WOWS!!  It is the smoothest continued motion down lane (that I love from my solids) with out the big flip!  It's the cleanest ball through the Heads that I have in my bag, and does not skip-flip at all.  I kept mine at OOB surface.  It was the ball everyone was watching go down the lane at the PDX Masters last month because it had an amazing recovery and angle to the pocket on the US OPEN pattern laid on top of old Wood Lanes -- I had never successfully played "fall-back" until this ball on this surface with that pattern!  The Vow helped me score 100 pins more in the 2nd 6 game black than the 1st block.

My Vow is also really really good on THS -- it blends the Wet-Dry seamlessly!

Sorry - I would be crazy to change. Roto has given me everything I like, the hit the roll AND the scores. Critical Theory - Defiant Edge - Disturbed - Berserk - even my Rising Star  - I will put these up against the vow any day!  But we all have a choice - I have made mine!

I don't think anyone asked you to change anything. The Original poster above was considering a Vow and it was stated that its a great idea, and trying all of the companies is a wonderful thing.
Glad you are happy with your choice and really doubt anyone cares about what you would "put up against the Vow".

Although coming into a Columbia subforum and pounding your chest about your perfume scented storm equipment is a true show of class. Seems like another smart "choice" made by you.

I should have stated that my team mate had a vow and it just didn't work for him, and I have also have spoken to other owners of vows that have been disappointed in it. So I was speaking for them in comparison to what I have against that ball. It may work for you, but I am confident in what I have. If someone wants to try another ball from any company - I am all for it, I am just speaking from what works for me, so I will stick with my smart choice - which are not scented. I would also wait for a Disturbed pearl, it will be worth waiting for.
