Wife Loves the Action Max & Big Shot
« on: March 24, 2007, 06:04:50 AM »
We had a couple of new Columbia Balls drilled up for my wife in the last month. The Action Max and the Big Shot make a good duo for heavy oil and the Big Shot for medium oil patterns. The Action Max was 14.4 lbs with 3 1/2 top weight and 3-3 1/2 pin before dill. CG kicked over and down for 3/4 side weight and some thumb weight. Pin placed about 3 o'clock right of ring finger.
The surface is box finish no changes. This ball goes through the heads and starts picking up mid lane roll and starts turning left down the lane and does not quit. No snap, just nice and smooth.
The big Shot was 14.2 with 2 1/2 top weight and 3-3 1/2 pin before drill. The same drill was used as the Action Max and this placed the pin about 2 o'clock above ring finger. She rolled this ball for about one game and did not like the reaction. The Big Shot went down lane and had a hard snap on the back end.
The big Shot was 4000 Abralon box finish but this one seemed to have some polish on it. I put a 2000 grit Abralon pad to it. The league shot last week was on the dry side which was just what we wanted to see for a change. The weather change caused the lanes to dry out after each game. My wife was rolling the Big Shot out across 10 board and stayed there all 3 games. The Big shot takes a nice arc to the pocket and hits hard. I really like the way this ball reacts to surface change. I hope Ebonite takes a good look at the covers on both the Action Max and the big Shot before they scrap it. A lot of the high end equipment just flat out rolls out when the lanes change. This happens a lot with slower ball speeds or the ball will loose all its energy with some bowlers.
My wife's has the slower ball speed around 14 MPH with good rotation.
