horrible forum software?
« on: September 06, 2007, 11:29:46 AM »
I've used this site for years and it's a great community, but the forum software is horrible. with such great forum software available now days, some for free, why does this site use this?

my main complaint is the max 30 day search, its like any information on this site older than 30 days is completely dead and gone. lots of good information lost forever.

You're right, I think it would be better if they did upgrade to phpBB or NUKE. Alot of good forums that run alot more user friendly. Without having to hit post reply, and just adding a simple quick reply box.. If they ever did to decide to upgrade, they would have to know some coding and etc. I am a master at phpBB.

Here is a search hack that will let you look back through All posts.

I don't care what software they use so long as it's easy to read.  I've read forums that have a dozen silly stats under the username, avatars, goofy color schemes, odd and teeniny fonts.  This site is plain, simple, and easy to read, and if they want to change the backend software that's fine with me so long as the format stays.

that search hack lets you search but you cant read any of the replies to the original topics. maybe it is not longer working?

also yeah I like forums to be readable but thats just general design quality, you can fully customize almost any forum software to look like whatever you want.

I agree with Shelley. I like this format for the ease of reading. I would like to see a "bad buyer or seller" button added for easy reminder on who you had a bad experience with so you dont make a mistake and buy or sell to that user again.

T-Bone,

This is why many have a list of transactions in their profiles.  I doubt the ownership is going to designate anything on someone's ID.  I'd suggest you keep track in your profile of good transactions and bad.  Just an idea.

I posted this a while back (March 2007) - of course, without changing your preferences and using the search hack, you'd never be able to find it!

Click the link that says see 2 years back. But don't select anything, just close the window after you click the link. It may work after that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did that a while back, except I added a "1" in there and can see back 1730 days.

I agree with most of your complaints, but I also agree with Shelley.  The ease of use and reading is a big reason I use this forum.  The search hack and the above preference change help with some of the other "less desirable" features.

that worked for the search hack and seeing replies, still pretty ghetto though. I recommend phpbb, much better software. and free.

other things this software lacks, seeing registration date of users, seeing post counts. helps to know if people have been around long enough to know what they are talking about or not.

the search is horrible, I hardly call the hack a viable solution.

I can notice a difference in the amount of information on this page from years ago when I came here. maybe if the software was more up to date, more people would use it.

I'll agree this forum layout is simple, but its far from nice looking.
