Site Moderation
« on: January 16, 2005, 11:48:23 AM »
It seems that someone took "offense" to my post "Open Letter To Bruce Hamilton", and the powers to be deleted the post. It was just an honest appeal to get some order within the site, and by the many long time respected users that added their input, it appears I was not alone in wanting some "improvements".

However, insane, profane, and spamming remains. Yet a post that is seeking to improve the site is deleted. The Webmaster stated that beginning 1/7/05, moderators would slowly be used once again. What are they moderating? BTW, with all the posts that should have been deleted for profanity, vulgarity, etc. I never even received a notice that this post was deleted, or for what reason.

I appreciated Scott and BallReviews.com for assisting the NY State Firefighters in their State Tourney in 2003, and I have learned a lot from many knowledgeable and respected bowlers here. Maybe someday I can look forward to looking at this site several times a day, learning, growing, and continuing in making new acquaintances.

I'd love to know who took offense to that post.  It was well written and had a valid point to it, unlike the spam posts that run rampant here.  Too bad.  Guess the owner will continue ignoring the serious members requests.  Gee, I feel valued.

Nice note. I would like to say one thing: if the nobody wishes provide this site as a well managed site, there are other sites ready and willing to support bowlers online. AllBowling.com and others have sites with great features, incentives, and real site management. If there is a vaccum, somebody will fill it.

It is a sad day in America when our "First Amendment" rights are denied.

A public forum is supposed to be a place where one can voice and exchange opinions.

It appears that the site owner is not open to public opinion and is now resorting to censorship.

How sad is that?

Nope, it's not a public forum for airing opinions. It's a privately owned site. If you want to play here, it's his rules that you gotta follow, just like if you go to a club, a store, or the workplace. If you want a public forum, go to a council meeting at city hall.

it seems that some people are only happy with the rules they like, when they break a rule, it's not fair. the owners can't win

Once again, that would only apply if we were ever given rules to begin with.

Triumph, as a newer member, and someone who probably has no idea as to what the post "Open Letter To Bruce Hamilton" was about, or stated, you are making a poor speculation, IMHO.

The original post was a personal opinion of mine, as to the "downslide" of the site with a lack of control over individuals that make personal and profane attacks, all clearly violating the rules set forth by the site. It was my intention in a civilized manner to hopefully "awaken" someone to the problems perceived, and voiced, by many other long term and respected users. In just a short few days, close to a thousand views of that post, and hundreds of responses, echoing my sentiments.

My regret at this point, and in the above post, is to that the profane and vulgar attacks continue, yet a post that lies completely within the guidelines gets deleted, with absolutely no reasons given.

Where are the rules? Well they seem to be posted on the opening page. But now it seems we have new rules, "unwritten rules", and no way to know if a post is allowed or will be deleted.

I would be willing to lay claim that many others would be "upset" if their posts, well within the written guidelines just "vanished". Fair? Not my site, or position to say. But I can state that I have seen a decline in the quality of posts, and the absence of some great respected users. This along with many potential great users that have not contributed due to the "nonsense".

My apologies if anyone takes offense to my opinions, or does not agree or understand them.

I was talking about MTFD's post and complaints about the site smart aleck.......

It broke none of the rules, proving your mod-worshiping/defense to be invalid.
