Title: Fix the Site?
Post by: Greg T on October 17, 2013, 03:15:26 PM

Could someone please fix the slow/sluggish response of the site. Loading pages has been horrible for a few weeks now. Anyone looking into it?

Sorry for the delayed response.  One of our guys is out right now so we just noticed this.  I am going to have our tech department check this out and try to get this fixed shortly.  Thank you for bringing this to our attention and thank you for your patience.

I thought it was just my computer...  Cool.

I've been a member here for 15-16 months now.  The site has never been as slow as it's been responding today.  At least for me.

Greg is right about it being sluggish that last couple of weeks, but today it's slowed to a crawl.  Again, can only speak for me.

Scott,

I wonder if it was just that your ISP had less traffic because this morning Im seeing nothing different: displaying threads seem to still take that extra 15 - 30 seconds when it should be all but instantaneous, maybe 5 seconds. AND my ISP just increased our modem download rate.

Edit: Make that displaying and posting. Posting the above took 20 seconds.

This morning the paging rate has greatly speeded up for my computer, so hopefully they have found the gremlin.

That could be Jeff.  Just checked my ISP speed Download 31.68 mbps and upload 3.22 mpbs.  That's pretty good for me on Charter which always isn't that good.

We do have better overall page loads now but we're still getting periodic loads that are way above acceptable rates. We're going to have to test some other things.  :-\

1:10 PM Eastern time (Hope this might help)

FYI I just tried to display this reply in a new tab (in Mozilla Firefox)  from the home page summary of latest posts. It timed out after 60 seconds.

When I went step by step, from home page, select FORUMS, then page down and select COMMENTS and SUGGESTIONS forum, then select this thread, then page down, the display took less time, maybe a more reasonable 3 - 5 seconds per step.

Just tried a 2nd random thread/post from the Home page. It displayed in a new tab in 1-2 seconds, which is normal and excellent.

For me, the site is displaying much slower than before.

Edited to add:

Even posting is slower and when I clicked on the Modify button to add the slow posting comment, that was slower.

Hey guys, we've moved to a new server in the hopes of improving the load times. Please let me know if you see improvement, more of the same, or  (please no, please no, please no) slowdown.

So far I seem to be getting quicker response times for displaying and writing replies.

Addendum on Monday, 2/3/14: so far every "enter" and mouse button click seems to confirm performance increase, back to normal, expected levels. Thank you!

Well, time to bring this thread back. Been extremely slow for a few weeks, then complete outage for nearly two days, now back again and just as slow. What's the deal?

Just after logging in, I received a malware notice. Problem w/ the ads again?

I'm not seeing any slowness. The site outage was due to a database error that admittedly took longer than I would've liked to get taken care of but it shouldn't have affected site speed. Is this something you're seeing on specific pages or overall?

Are you seeing that on all pages or just on certain pages? Do you have the exact error you're seeing. It could be a malicious ad though Google should keep those filtered out.

EDIT: I just ran a few scans and nothing was returned so I'm definitely leaning toward some weird ad but, if that is the case, we want to track that ad down so we can get it reported and blocked.

My anti-malware software blocked it. If it has a log of it, I'll PM to you.

I had literally logged on and in less that a minute, I was notified. I assumed an ad was compromised.

For 2 straight days, each time I would try to get on here, it said the following -

'SOF connection problems,  can't connect to the server, please try again....

Anyone else here experience this?   ???

Connection problems would have been happening from ~4pm CDT on the 22nd till ~12pm CDT today. This was due to a database crash.
