Title: New Site Bugs, Missing Features, and other general wonkiness
Post by: BallReviews-TECH on May 02, 2012, 04:52:28 PM
Ok everyone, in order to better track what we are doing/need to do for the new site we're moving to a single topic to track this stuff. We'll try to keep this updated so that you know if something has/hasn't been reported and also so you'll know what has been fixed.

Missing Features
Unread posts sorted by category/board - Fixed
Spell Check - Fixed
Profiles (About Me) - Fixed 5/2
Help section for how to use new site
Ignore button (as opposed to having to go to My Messages to edit ignore list)
Show the original post on each page - Fixed
Differentiate all new posts in a thread

Broken
Non-moderated posts showing up on home page - Fixed
Can't get past first page of ball reviews - Fixed
Bread Crumbs (the little links that go to the sections above the one you are drilled down to)
Ball Reviews showing as being written by "Guest" instead of the person that wrote the review

Because something is in this list doesn't definitely mean we're going to implement it. This just means we've received the suggestion and will be considering it.
Suggested Additions
Double number of recent posts on home page - Done
Remove FS/FT/WTB boards from recent posts on home page - Done
Gallery of avatars
Ignore boards/threads option
Add embed features for more sites (e.g. Vimeo, Ebaumsworld, Facebook, etc...)

The about me data is now available again in your profile. It can be edited in the "Forum Profile" section in the "Profile" dropdown. Please note that some things on your profile might look a little off. We made every effort to transition everything that was in everyone's profile and no data should be missing but some of the styling might be off.

I don't see it addressed as still being broken or fixed, but for awhile any new ball reviews were showing up in the Latest Forum Posts instead of on Latest Reviewed.

I posted a review of the 900 Global Black Eagle on April 16. I checked today and it has my review as a guest. Can this be updated.

When I'm on a "non-mod" topic & read the posts... when I click on the link to go back into the non-mod index I get sent all the way out to the forum index... Been happening yesterday & today.  Clicked on the refresh & it still happening.

Monster,  that is the 'bread crumbs' that is mentioned in the OP.  Still broken.

I don't like that when you use the "unread posts since your last visit" link, it takes you to the last post in the thread.  Personally, I like the old system of some kind of color difference between old posts and unread posts.  Sometimes there are several new posts and as it is now you have to scroll up to see them.  Also, I'd like to see the original post remain at the top of all multi page threads, not just the first.  Otherwise it can be difficult to stay on subject.

However, thanks again for all the recent work and listening to our concerns.  The site has come a long way in a few days.

Oh, that's what that meant... Ok.  I'm still in transition mode to the new format & now "verbage" as well... LoL!!  Thanks.

Sorry about the confusing terms MP. I was running through the existing bugs quickly and didn't think to try to describe it any more clearly.

Those shouldn't be popping up there any more. We are still doing some work on "Latest Reviewed" though.

That one on the list now. Thanks for the heads-up!

Original post at the top is on there and I've added differentiating all new posts also.

Original post now shows on each page of a topic. If you'd prefer not to have that functionality, you can turn it off in Profile>Modify Profile>Look and Layout (or just go here (http://www.ballreviews.com/index.php?action=profile;area=theme)). Just uncheck the checkbox that says "Show first post on every page".

No problem... was actually my bad... I was just skimming & didn't really read the whole description behind it... It makes sense to me now.

Didn't see this post until now, so I started one in the "bug reports" forum.  Do we no longer have the "jump to" specific forum drop down box at the bottom of the page?

It should be there directly above the quick reply box.

I see it both logged on and not logged on.  It shows up near the bottom of the page, but not on the Recent Unread Topics pages or on a reply page when typing a reply.

Where the heck is the post new review button? I have tried to do two reviews in the past weeks
But have not found the proper button to get the review template. I posted them as replys they
Never came up in the new review list.

Is this the reason that there never seems to be any new reviews, or are people just not doing them anymore (seems unlikely)?  I tried to find the templates for reviews, and couldn't locate them either. Also, following the steps in the HELP section on how to post a review, did not see the "Post A New Review" button anywhere, leaving "Reply" as the only the option for posting a review.  This definitely needs looked at and fixed, since "reviews" are a big part of enjoying this site.

before and i wish you guys would fix it

Have you reclassified the description of the site or anything?  Anything that would define how work filters view the site?  Do the ads on the front page have anything to do with that?  My work place started blocking Ballreviews starting Friday 6/15/12.  The warning section says "Malicious sites...  Online shopping, Malicious.

My McAfee Site Advisor was actually saying that this was a malicious site too, which said it has risky behaviors.  I had to override that a few times to make this site come up.

Is it possible to add a feature to allow for the ball list/ball reviews to be sorted and chosen by first letter? This would make finding a ball much more expedient.
For example ... there are currently 86 pages in the ball list, and no easy way to parse through them quickly. A hotlink to balls that start with 0-9, A, B, C, etc. would be fantastic!
It would be nice as well to have the hotlinks for the ball reviews within each manufacturer.
Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Dan

Latest balls reviewed shows balls that that have recently been reviewed,  but when I go to the ball review section it says no reviews.  For example; on the home page it says recent reviews "900 global the look" reviewed today.  I can click this and read the review, but when I go to the review section it still says 0 reviews?  Whats up with this?
