It probably has already been said, but I really dislike the new changes. It
is very hard to read and scan through topics I'm inteerested in. :P
-
Hi It's Ed User name pba 1992 I do not like the new site i can not get on the site so my new user name is edkpba
-
The changes work for me. Thanks BR. ;)
-
The way the new posts on the forum work sucks! It was nicer when the new posts were still by category, not in time order.... Makes it harder to see what you are looking for.....not crazy about any of the changes at all...
-
+ 1 to hating the new site dont like it at all i was on here 3-4 times a day before but now i just dont like the new format and will not be here much :,(
-
I too hate the new format. Go back to the old or I am out of here.
-
My question is why change it, not impressed.
-
I agree, it seems really cobbled up and too busy. I liked the format that originally was up when this site started. I never really liked the most recent one but it looked great compared to this. Come on Ballreviews, you have to be able to do better than this!!!
-
Not a fan either...I'm currently looking at just using bowlingchat or something instead..
-
I don't like the site's visual look, but I think that they made this change for the engine running underneath the hood, so to speak. I think that for the future, this is probably going to be an improvement. Didn't they have problems with the old engine not being flexible enough and running out of memory or space? And we have the Search feature back, although I haven't tried it yet, still trying to get used to navigating around.
Seems to be kind of redundant to keep listing every single reply to one topic, should only have to list the latest reply since you will probably see all of the previous ones anyways once you get to the topic itself.
-
I like the site better than the last version. I did have some probs logging in the first time.
-
I understand changes are inevitable with everything. However, This change appears to be a step backwards.
-
New format is terrible
-
Waaaaaah. Somebody moved my cheese and I don't like it. Get over it. It's a internet forum.
-
i am pleased with the site
-
Not happy with the changes. :(
-
As MI 2 AZ guessed, this change was to the engine running underneath and we changed a LOT of stuff so there will be issues at first. I doubt that we can make everyone happy but we will do what we can to recreate some of the features (unread posts sorted by category, only show one latest post per topic) on the new site. This change was necessary to be able to keep the site updated with new features and also to be able to handle things like getting search back up and running.

Do you still have the email address you used to register with for pba1992? PM me and we'll try to get that taken care of for you.

I haven't looked around much yet, but is there a help sticky somewhere that explains the differences of how things work now (quotes, posting links and videos...)?
And is there really justification to answer two verification questions just to make a post? Seems like overkill. At least they are easy to read, but why is this necessary?

Dont always agree with CRD but in this case it rings true...quitting because it changed a bit is kind of childish.
-
Doesn't seem all that bad to me.

Sorry Strider, that is a feature to keep spam bots from making posts and should only be active for new members. I fixed your post count so that should remove the verification.

Thanks! I guess there will be lots of growing pains on both of our ends. Change is always a pain to deal with. Hopefully at least our criticisms will be mostly constructive. It would be great if every so often (once a month or so) you made a post with a summary of changes/improvements made to the site so everyone is aware of them. Even if we're not always happy with the changes, it's always nice to know that someone is listening to our concerns.
-
i've seen worse
-
1. I can't get pass the first page of the company ball reviews. It takes me to the most recent ball list/reviews.
2. I would like to see the new posts grouped by category like in the past.
-
Hey BR Tech - Would you consider doubling the size ot the "Latest Forum Posts" on the main screen? It seems too small IMHO.
The Ball Reviews get updated so infrequently yet they take up a huge portion of the screen. And, anybody iterested in a ball review can easily search the site for what they want..
Thanks

I also liked having For Sale posts in the latest post listing on the front page.
-
I'd personally like to de-emphasize the wanted/for sale posts seen on the front page and the "show unread posts since your last visit" link since for now it's only sorted by time. A great majority of the wanted/for sale posts are just endless bumps of existing posts anyway. Just as the miscellaneous non-bowling forums isn't for everyone, I believe the wanted/for sale forum should be treated the same. People looking to buy and sell know where to look; it shouldn't be 80% of my most recent posts.

Thanks. Please recreate the unread posts sorted by category!!! I'm looking forward to the search being back.

Yeah, if they have the room, doubling the Latest Forum Posts would be okay.
As for the ball reviews, don't forget what the name of this site is. : )

Yea, we need to rewrite the help for the new system. To add a picture select "forum profile" from the profile dropdown (located underneath the "Show new replies to your post" and date info at the top of the screen). From there, select "Upload an avatar" in the personalized picture section.

Those shouldn't be showing up on the front page. It should be much easier to read through once we bring back the sorting by board for the "unread posts" page.

So what do you guys mean by doubling the size? Are you saying the text is too small or that you'd like to see twice as many posts shown there?

I think what they mean is seeing twice as many posts shown down there. It is way to small for the size of the page. It only gives you a very small sample of what is going on in BR.
-
Thank you, looks much better. ;)

Yes, that is what I meant by doubling (twice as many). I don't know if that is what the original requester meant.
And, since it has already been implemented, thanks.
-
more latest posts. . .thank you :D
-
Do me a favor and just send out a mass email to the members once you have the quirks worked out. My main gripe is that the newest posts aren't organized by category. I don't want to wade through hundreds of for sale posts in order to get to one relevant topic.

Well, we need users to try thing to see what works and what doesn't. The more people who try things and make suggestions, the sooner things will be better.

Looks like the "block user" function is missing (or maybe my browser is acting goofy?) and I would have liked to have seen a "block thread" function because som get so ridiculous they hurt my brain by their mere existence. Otherwise, it is what it is.
Thanks! -- Ken

The block user function is still there but it is "unwieldy" at best. You can get to it by going to your profile and in the "Modify Profile" dropdown select "Edit Ignore List" from "Buddies/Ignore List...". Clearly this isn't nearly as simple as just clicking a button on a post so I'll be looking to add that functionality.

Unread posts are now sorted first by category/board, then by whatever sort method you select (defaults to most recent).
-
Thanks! Looks so much better to me.
-
I like it better now that they have added categories for forum comments.
-
If it wasn't broke why try to fix it. I miss the most recent posts being on the home screen

The most recent posts should be on the home page for you. I see them.
As to why fix it? This site's engine was obsolete and they, the Admins, have been trying for awhile to find a newer engine that was compatible with all of the old ball reviews and forum posts so that they could be carried over into the new system. I think the original old system was overloaded and could not handle the number of posts that had accumulated, one reason why we may have lost the Search function, or it could have been a memory issue, I forget (pun intended).

Do we still have spell check?
Or am I just not seeing it?

It is there now next to the preview button.

Why aren't "bumps" of a topic displayed on the front page? The"bump" does go to the top in it's specifice topic.

Bumps should show up on the front page. Note that posts from Miscellaneous Non-Bowling and the FS/WTB boards are not shown there.

After some days with the new format I find it not bad - even though I liked the former, simplistic format, too, because it kept blatant visuals (e. g. signatures with graphics that occupy half the visible page - with EVERY post) at bay.
Only sad thing so far is for me that profile information or the ignore list have gone blank. I am also a bit confused by new reviews appearing under the latest forum entry list, too.
Handling, e.g. editing the profile, is a bit complicated (might be a browser issue on my side, though), but nothing that could be called rocket science.
Having the site "fit for the future" is IMHO worth the change.
-
so it looks like i lost my whole profile on this new site with all my transaction/refs history.
can not find it anywhere. this new site sucks! guess bbe is going to become my new home.

The profiles have not been lost. We are porting them from our old format to the new format.
-
Not big deal for me...change is good.
-
Look at BR.com being "progressive" :D
