What happened to the non-bowling/non-moderated board?
« on: January 21, 2015, 11:58:58 AM »
Some of you are probably wondering what the heck happened to the "non-moderated" tag on this board.

After much discussion, the moderators have decided that the "non-moderated" board should be shut down. We are simply tired of trying to decide what is/isn't worthy of moderation (yes, the board said "non-moderated" but anyone who read the sticky at the top knew we reserved the right to moderate in some cases). Most threads in that board had simply devolved into personal attacks and fights between different users. We don't want that to be who we are as a site so, while we don't like losing a part of our site, this decision was made.

There's a few trolls I'm sure are happy now. They finally succeeded in getting it shut down. Congrats. :(

There were a lot of people that contributed on both sides.

Those that are guilty know who they are, but they don't care. Got what they wanted, so I don't expect to see any remorse for their actions.

It's too bad for others that enjoyed the forum that a few had to ruin it for all, but that's the way it usually goes. I'll leave it at that - no sense arguing about it anymore, we're all adults, and we all saw and know what happened and who all were involved and how.

Thanks to BR admins/moderators for trying to police the worst offenders and keep the forum open as long as they did. I'm actually kind of surprised this didn't come a long time ago.

On edit; I've said my piece on the matter, and will say no more. Right or wrong, agree or disagree, these are my feelings on the matter. I will now, for the sake of BR and everyone's sanity, let it go and move on.

I have been here for 12 years and on one hand hate to see it closed down, but will say the behavior and personal attacks got so bad, that I had quit posting in the misc forum recently and even also quit coming to it to view as much as I once did.

It is evident that the things that have gone on in this forum the past 2-3 years or so have run a lot of respected people off from this site. Even after the recent banishment of certain posters, a certain poster still here has done his best to replace a banished one at keeping the pot stirred, even after being called out about it by some respected posters.

I think that if everyone will be really-really honest with themselves, they will admit that things were still out of hand here and this why the mods shut it down. I don't like it anybetter than anyone else does, yet, it couldn't be allowed to continue as it was doing.

Maybe after a cooling off period, it will be re-started with some stricter guide lines like BBE which has a zero tolerance policy on personal attacks. Eliminate personal attacks and their should be no problems.

Was looking forward to checking it out as a couple of buddies told me it was a riot to watch.
If you're so gutless as to hide behind the ignore button while taking shots at people....why are you even here?

Just when we had made progress toward putting our differences behind us earlier today.

The timing is rather odd.  Be well to you too.  And to many others.

I've had 14 years of friendship on this site. Now, just because my health no longer allows me to bowl, I have no reason to discuss bowling. The NB-Misc bowling forum is all I had left to stay connected to my friends here.  It's been a pleasure, my good friends. The good times and the bad, somehow it always worked out. I'm going to miss this place and all of you in a huge way. Be well, folks.

There a lot of people I met through the Misc. Non-Bowling board that I am going to miss interacting with. Some others, not so much. But I would vote for bringing the board back in some form. Allow some of the saltly language that isn't allowed in the bowling boards, just outlaw any personal attacks. Give everyone a warning if they break that rule once, and ban them if they break it again within a certain time frame. This will allow for some disagreements, without the continued personal attacks that the board descended to. It will force people to move on from arguements and stop bringing things up over and over again.

If not, I hope all those who I have conversed with in public and private will continue to be well. Greg T, I hope this isn't the last time I get to converse with you, but if it is, it has been an honor to get to know you a little and I wish you and your family nothing but the best in the future.

I still feel the non-misc boards problems could be solved with a suggestion I made previously. That being where a user could prevent a specific user from posting to their thread. The truly caustic posts would disappear very quickly when they had no where to post those comments directed at their favorite target.

Similar to the "Ignore List" or the Ignore List could include an option to prevent users on this list from posting in their topic.

This would isolate the problem children real fast, including me;D

WOW!! Doesn't this just suck.

Well some of us knew this was coming if things didn't settle down, it is what it is.
And 9~, yes some people got what they wanted.

I found myself posting less and less, but would still come in and read all of the antics going on in the forum. I made some good friends in here also, and don't be strangers as I will check in once in a while, and check my in box. Or if I need some bowling info as I still do bowl.

Good luck everyone, and be good.

Dang now I have to find another place to hang out and converse. :(

Agreed. Unfortunately, there were a very few who's pure agenda was troublemaking, and there wasn't a mechanism for isolating their behavior. Having a non-misc board that has tools for moderation without the mods intervening would be a win-win all around. I had hoped your suggestion would have been implemented.
