Doc's Elixer and changing the surface...
« on: October 28, 2004, 01:18:03 PM »
Was wondering how effective Doc's Elixer was after changing the surface of a bowling ball...

I can see were if you initially applied the elixer in box finish, and then polished the ball, it really shouldn't have any negative effect on the elixer.

But if you have a 1200 grit ball and take it down to 600 persee, do you need to re-doc the ball up after the surface change.

Just curious, because when I get my very own spinner in a couple of weeks, it'll be one more thing I need to know...

From what I know of Doc's Elixir, these facts seem relevant to your questions:

- Sanding removes the elixir. It must be re-applied.

- The elixir is the last thing you do to a ball before using it.

- It usually lasts in the range of 15-25 games.

- It inhibits oil absorption; it does not prevent it. Because it does this, length is slightly increased over non-treated balls.
