What's the correct way to use your dishwasher to de-oil your bowling ball?

Is there a "correct way" as this seems to be an idea someone dreamed up...  I'm not sure I want my plates, knives, forks, etc covered with plasticizer (as we have found out that oil really doesn't come out of balls when heated, but rather some substance used in the manufacturing process)...
But anyway, supposing you still want to try it, I would recommend somehow plugging the holes (finger, thumb, balance, etc).  Maybe with tape... maybe with rubber stoppers, just something to keep the excess water out.  I would choose the shortest cycle (as I believe the temperature inside a dishwasher is well above any recommended temp for extraction).  Turn off the drying heat and remove the ball as soon as its finished.

If its a ball that you like, I would personally recommend splurging for $20 and have it done in a proshop in a rejuvenator.. or for a litte more cash, buy one of the products specially designed for this (Columbia's CPR or Ebonite's hook again).

Just put the ball in the rack, with no other items and turn it on.  Do NOT use the heated dry cycle.  Taping the holes is up to you, it will not do any damage the holes.  Remember, you dishwasher only heats the water to about 130 degrees, if you left the ball in your trunk during a summer day, it would get much hotter.  When done, use a paper towel and dry it off.  Good Luck.

I've always said...dishwashers are for dishes ! I use the sun, set the ball on a rag in front of a sliding glass door , let set for 30-40 min, wipe...turn 180 and do it again. Use the 6 step method like you'd resurface a ball and the oil runs out.

my 2 cents are up

I've never tried the dishwasher method.  I just filled a bathtub with warm water and some dawn liquid.  That seemed to work fine.

Thanks for the replies, I have an old Track NRG that I was thinking about trying it with. My mother said no problem if I wanted to try it. Mike M.
