Title: Adding surface to a peal ball question
Post by: thedjs on August 28, 2014, 02:11:59 PM
I have a Columbia Violent Eruption which is 800 Abranet, 1000-2000 Abralon and then factory polish.  It is drilled with the pin about 5" from my pap and about 1" over the ring finger.  No balance hole.

My problem is that the ball is going too far down the lane before it starts to hook.  (the lanes are on the dryer side and my other equipment forces me to move in too deep and way out of my comfort zone)  So I'm thinking about changing the surface to 3000 Abralon and wondered if I need to go to a lower grit first and work up or just start with a 3000 par?  Or would it be just easier to have the ball redrilled and put the pin lower and closer to my pap?  Worse case scenario I could just deep six this ball and get a new Cyclone of Freeze with a different pin placement.

Any advise would be appreciated.

You can just try to use the 3000 first to knock the shine down. It would be the quickest and simplest solution if it works.

If that doesn't work then try starting out at a lower grit like 500 to really remove the shine and go with 2000 or 3000

Where is the cg in relation to your Pin and PAP?

Surface dictates length so if the ball is skidding too far, adjust the surface. Secondly, check the flare separation...if flares are too tight, add a weight hole to open them up

I was thinking the same as you  ;) I'm for the hole if it can use one.
