Hi,
Currently, I’m wondering why on earth oil won’t come out from my Phaze II when baked.
Bought 2 months ago, played on THS, heavy oil sport patterns, altogether around 30 games went by.
With same condition, my DV8 Thug Unruly, GB3, Quantum Bias, Impulse Solid would have been sweating like mad already.
I remember encountering same observation with my old Ultimate Inferno. Dull surface, no sweat whatsoever.
Phaze II OOB 3000 grit abralon finish
Ultimate Inferno my old ball resurfaced 500,1000 grit.
I wipe off the oil each time before each shot.. like any other ball on my arsenal.
It’s a mistery to me.
Any input will be appreciated.

Is there a drastic difference in reaction vs when it was new?

Sounds stupid but not really. It was kinda routine for me.

I touch up surface every 10-30 games depending on what I want and what I'm seeing. I only bake to release oil when I notice a big change in reaction that resurfacing doesn't help.
I haven't really had any issues the last few years with balls sucking up oil. But I've also been throwing mainly Brunswick/DV8/Radical and Motiv.
I've had 3 balls that really sucked oil. Original Blue Vibe which was poured during the EBI ball death years. Storm Crossroad and Ride. Reactor has sucked oil in my experiences

Oh, I’m only recently interested in surface preps. I do the other way around of what you do 😝.
Meaning : I bake my ball often to pull out oil & still apprehensive to alter the surface of relatively new balls and avoid to do it if unnecessary.
I do use wet abralon pads for my older balls though.
Do you think the additive fragrance Storm put in their balls may cause it?
Another guess : ball with higher grit will bleed less oil than lesser grit for the pores size are smaller?
Does oil need to really soak up Phaze II before it can sweat?

For what it's worth, I put my Phaze II with 50 games into a Detox and got nada. No real change in reaction either. Love that ball.

^ agreed, wait until the ball has 75-100 games in it; by then, you should notice some drop off in reaction, BUT MAKE SURE you keep the cover refreshed every 6-12 games as needed.
P.s, the Phaze ll is also a HIGH MAINTENANCE BALL that needs extra tlc.

Eh, I haven't found it to need more maintenance, I've actually found it to need less than other solid covers like say a Code X or Idol. I've got a lot of games on the newest one I drilled 8 months ago and aside from wiping oil off, I've just had to touch up the surface here and there if I need more surface for a particular situation. Otherwise I let it lane shine and stay there and it's gotten a lot of use and is still reacting well, kind of surprised actually, haven't even thought of detoxing.
If you're wiping the ball off and keeping it clean, I don't know why you'd be surprised that after only 30 games there isn't any oil coming out lol, I'd leave oil extractions alone until they're necessary. If wiping oil off and cleaning is doing the job, keep doing that until you notice the reaction suffering, then I'd go for the detox.

That could perhaps be the high maintenance comment I guess . . but all sanded solids are like that.

I’m sorry but could you explain what “high maintenance†and “lane shine†really mean?
Would lane shine alter the ball reaction? 🤔

Lane shine can give a little more push, and result in a more angular move. Similar to higher grit finish, or slight amount of polish.

High maintenance in this case is referring to have to take scotch brites or pads to the ball every few sessions to knock off the lane shine to maintain original ball reaction (others saying not so necessary which agree with).

Donuts is spot on. For me, Phaze II, my favorite of all time probably, was one of those balls that needed 10 games before it really broke in, if that's the right way to say it. It's kept its reaction from then on, at least for my house shot, and I can always scuff it for more oil....

Phase 2 is one if those balls that reacts as good or better with a kittke kabe shine than in box condition for me. First ball I saw that this was true for was the original Virtual Gravity. Another was the Lucid.
