Title: Baking the ball brought out colored oil
Post by: hacgumyu on June 21, 2007, 05:56:19 PM: I baked my Absolute Inferno today in home oven at 190F. I check every 3-4mins to clear oil on the ball. After 7-8 times, it's still bleeding oil, and when I wipe them off with a paper towel, the oil is purple pinkish color. It that normal or did I bake too much and bleed the color out from coverstock?

Post by: charlest on June 22, 2007, 05:54:04 AM: not sure if the plasticizer has the same color as the ball itself, but at 190 degrees, theory says that is both plasticizer and lane oil coming out of the ball. Plasticizer is what makes urethane into resin.

when heating the ball using any method, the maximum temp range should be 140 - 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

Post by: DON DRAPER on June 22, 2007, 09:29:10 AM: this is the reason brunswick recommennds the use of a revivor or a rejuvenator to safely extract the oil from a bowling ball. the temperature of these two types of pro shop tools are lower and more easily controlled.

Post by: witesoxwoz22 on June 22, 2007, 09:56:18 PM: Never done it, but how about just putting the ball in the trunk of a car and removing oil periodically? Not sure how hot the trunk gets though.

Post by: Stan on June 22, 2007, 10:27:11 PM: First off, yea 190 degrees was WAY TOO HOT. At that temp, you might have gotton core and cover separation. As far as the plasticisers, let the ball sit for 1 full day and what is left will come to the surface.

I don't get it, you pay $200 for a ball and will not pay $20 to have the oil removed correctly.
