Aloha BR,
Tonight, I had an interesting thought at league and I'd love to get some feedback. I have two solid balls drilled identically - a 900 Global Truth Tour and a Storm Match (that red/grey one). My thought: "What's the difference between the weaker coverstock (the Match) at 1000 and a stronger coverstock (Truth Tour) at 3000? Is there a meeting point where the Match at XXX surface would nearly mimic the Truth at XXX surface?"
What do you guys think?

Maybe in total hook, but not in shape, which may be obvious, but essentially, you can have the Match read really early with a lower surface, and cover a similar amount of boards, but have the Truth go longer and turn harder. I have tried this out with a Phaze II and a Hustle INK, and I found they were very similar, with the Phaze II at 5000, and the Hustle INK at 2000.

Thanks for the feedback, Keegan. That's a neat experiment you tried out. I'm sort of/kind of trying it with the two balls I mentioned. I want to say that coverstock chemistry is a prominent factor in determining how far a ball travels down lane? Even at fresh 1000, the Match read later, went longer, and had a quicker response to friction than the Truth at fresh 3000.
Let's add another variable-here are the core numbers for each ball:
Match has RG of 2.55 and DIFF of 0.030
Truth has RG of 2.53 and DIFF of 0.38
Writing these core numbers triggered two new questions for me:
- What's a more important determining factor in reaction shape (arc vs. hockey-stick vs. hook on a dime: RG or DIFF?
- Does a lower or higher RG determine what part of the lane the flare potential happens? Take these two balls for example: does the Match flare later down lane than the TT due to the RG difference?
