What is the lowest OOB surface on current balls?
« on: February 15, 2019, 10:02:38 PM »

What  The lowest out of box grit on the current series of bowling balls from the last couple years. How does it compare to the particle balls of the quantum era Brunswick and Chaos particle balls of the C300 era?

Really curious since I do have a hard time getting balls to read on heavier sport shots, being an older rev challenged slower but still speed dominant bowler.

Some of the urethane balls have really low surface but as far as reactives I think the 500/1000 on the Kingpin Max and Quantum Bias are about as low as are available.  You aren't forced to keep a ball OOB obviously.  Even by hand if you take a maroon scotch brite to a ball you can drop it down to at least 1000 grit without getting blisters.

(edit:  Web Tour and Pitbull Bark also at 1K finish)

Don't think its available any more.  Also that ball is super soft and doesn't hold 500 for long but yeah OOB it was strong.

Its extremely hard to keep a ball at such a coarse surface for long.  Even if a ball comes out of the box at 1000 grit, it will be closer to 3000 after just a couple of league sessions unless you hit it with an abralon or scotchbrite pad.

Brandon Riley is correct.
That is why as I stated in a previous post (talking about the Idol)  that I refresh the surface I desire on a ball every 9 games.  The lower the grit the quicker it changes to a higher grit. These modern reactive balls that come from the factory at a low grit, like 1000 require frequent maintenance to maximize performance.

I hit my Code X with a light 1000 grit after every 3 games. If I don't the ball lane shines real easy
