Please read the following from which I copied from another post:

Polish is a super high grit abrasive. Sandpaper leaves tons of small scratches in a surface. The higher the grit sandpaper you finish your sanding with, the smaller the surface is under a microscope. Usually I see people who say things like "the polish wore off.." Polish will never wear off, because there is nothing left behind after it is used. Polish simply smoothes the little scratches left from sanding. The polish may appear to rub off. In reality the haze that makes the polish appear to wipe off, is simply the wear and tear (and little scratches) the ball receives from normal use.

Polish is not a wax (and any polish contain silicon or wax additives should NEVER be used), so it doesn't wear out or rub off. The proper way to apply polish with a hand is through medium to high pressure, and a lot of rubbing the same spot. Not like waxing your car.

So... polish will never wear off??? I understand what the guy is saying above but I'm still confused!

Seriously... I have to keep all my polished balls re-polished at least once every 3-4 weeks if I use them alot, so how can someone say that polish can never wear off??? I don't understand?

I also know for a fact that when I use Track's Clean N' Dull on a polished ball after several times, that the polish begins to come off... am I missing something?

"Polish" is a relative term for the grit of your balls surface.

The more uniform and smoother the finish of your balls surface, the more it will reflex.

After you roll the ball down the lane for a few games, the ball picks up thousands and thousands of microscopic stratches that dull the surface of the ball. This makes the ball appear that the polish is wearing off.

The Track N'Sheen Dull contains a rougher abrasive then most polishs, so as you use it, you are adding microscopic scratches to the surface of the ball, which dull the surface.

Rubbing Compound is a rougher grit abrasive then Polish, so it will shine the ball up, but not to the clearity of a polish.

This is as simple as I can make it, and if you don't understand, I am sorry.

Polish is not a car wax, you don't "wax on" a polish, and "wax" it off either. You need to apply polish with alot of elbow grease, rubbing the same 1 by 1 inch area until the little polish is rubbed off.

Bottom line, Ric, is that "polish" is not a coating, but a way to modify the surface, a "finish". When you use a ball, that finish is changed, little by little OR a lot by a lot. A well kept, well oiled, clean synthetic lane will change a polished ball thrown by a low rev low speed bowler, MUCH, MUCH LESS than a dirty, dry old wood lane will change a polished ball by a high rev, high speed bowler. The old, dirty wood lane will "eat up" that ball much faster. In other words it will burn a track into it and scratch and scrape the surface so it looks a lot more worn that it should.

HUMM, IT WOULD TEND TO THINK THE POLISHED AREA OF A BALL WOULD ONLY BE WORN OFF ON THE TRACK AND FLARE AREA OF A BALL SINCE THAT IS THE AREA MOST EXPOSED TO FRICTION. tHAT IS VISABLE EVERYDAY BY LOOKING AT THE AREA OF THE BALL WHERE IT ROLLS.
