I remember someone suggested to use the windex to clean the ball, is it possible ? what kind of ball should i use for it ? what is the effect of apply it to a high polished ball ?

Actually, C&D is not the only product that will suck more out than Simple Green and or F409. All of the following Neo-Tac products will do the same:

1) Khameleon Particle Sand High Tech Ball Restorer
2) Liquid Sandpaper
3) Hook-It
4) Renew-It

Admittedly, these are more specialized products and you won't use them after every set, but they do perform a more complete job than household degreasers. Too many experiments over the complete range of coverstocks have proved to me that this is consistently true.

2 items.

1. Someone always wants a non-bowling-specific cleaner. (Can't fight city hall.)

2.All those Neo-Tac products, except for Hook-It, change the surface. That is a bad thing. That also makes them NOT cleaners. And Hook-It still makes me worry a LOT - it smells and feels toxic. No, I don't know; I just stopped using it. I like Neo-Tac's Liquid Nitro. It smells and feels safer nd seems to do a decent job.

From the implications of some of your phrases, I am also kind of sick and tired of playing around and testing cleaning and finishing products. I'll probably be sticking to a set few from now on. More important things to worry about.

Charlest: I'll offer a few thoughts on your Neo-Tac comments. But first, I want to say that after all your input about C&D, I picked up a bottle and have been very impressed with the product over the last few months. I try to be open minded.

Now, the other stuff:

The irony of this statement is that the act of bowling itself changes the surface more any hand applied abrasive. Even on well maintained and oiled lanes, 20-30 games will put your track area in an altered state that requires some attention. In the case of brickyards, a five game set will forever change the ball surface for the worse. So the issue isn't changing the surface -- it happens weather you want it or not. The real issue is how to clean and restore with as little ball surface trauma as possible.

Neo-Tac's Khameleon Particle Sand High Tech Ball Restorer alters the cover far less than one would assume. It removes all burned in marks and cleans during the process. As far as cleaning, I can't pick up any additional residue when following up with C&D. Anyway. after a session with Khameleon, buffing the ball with a towel surprisingly shines it back up to whatever it was previously. I have a six month old solid Uranium originally polished up once with Ebonite Matte Finish, and I haven't had to reapply even after 15-20 applications of Khameleon. The ball hasn't lost anything is appearance or reaction.

I agree with your assessment of Hook-It. C&D is simply a better and more versatile product. I now use C&D exclusively for all my pearl equipment.

We're on the same page as far as Lane#1 equipment, but your above statement simply isn't true. Applying C&D properly will always pick up more crap on a dirty porous ball. Again, I've seen this too many times from too many experiments.....

Anyway consider giving Khameleon a try on your aggressive Lane#1 covers. You'll be pleased with the results.

As far as cleaning my gear I use Ajax or Palmolive dishwasher
detergent. And I found that it actually gets your ball back to the state
it was in before...it'd just be cleaner

Steven and other users of Simple Green,

I just learned something that disturbed me more than a little bit about using SG on any balls of mine, from now on.

I got lazy and washed my car yesterday with one of those washes with wax on it. Everything went well until the sun came out and dried it too quickly. I found spots on the windows that window cleaner wouldn't get off. So I went to my Simple Green and Bounty towels, a great cleaning arsenal. Got the wax spots off the car quickly, with a little "elbow grease". HOWEVER, I noticed a residue that was almost greasy, left on the windows, even after much wiping with the Bounty. Now I had to take the window cleaner itself and clean the Simple Green off the windows.

Since SG leaves this greasy film on a non-porous surface like glass, I don't even like contemplating what might or might not happen to the pores of a resin bowling balls, when SG is used. While it's a great household and automotive degreaser and general cleaner, I think I'll stick, as I have said so very many times before, with cleaners made for the application in mind - bowling balls!.

I've used simple rubbing alcohol AND A MICROFIBER TOWEL available at your local Wal-Mart for about 7 dollars--and it's so big that you can cut it in half and make two towels. You wouldn't believe what will come off your ball when doing this on a spinner.

charlest: No argument on the use of Simple Green. The following is what I've 'backed off' to:

For regular cleaning maintenance (by hand):

1) Liquid Nitro immediately after each set.
2) Clean N' Dull every 1-2 weeks.

For intermediate cover restoration (by hand):

Khameleon Particle Sand High Tech Ball Restorer when I start to see wear on my shells (polished or sanded). For pearls and high-gloss resins, I restore any lost shine with Renew-It.

For heavy cover changes (spinner):

The usual suspects -- sandpaper, scothbrite, Trizact, polishes, etc. However, what I'm finding is that with routine intermediate cover restoration, I'm using the spinner less frequently, which is fine because because it's a hassle for me to set it up and put it away.....

I use mean green from the dollar general! does the same thing as storm reacta clean for a much cheaper price. I think simple green and mean green are the same thing like a cleaner/degreaser
