Trying the newspaper
« on: September 21, 2014, 11:51:13 AM »
Just hit six sides with newspaper on top of 2000 grit (use pad.) idk if you guys can tell from the pic, but does this look about right? What should I expect? I am going to give it a throw on my league tonight and see how it goes (hahaha it will probably be a wet shot or a heavy carry down shot tonight like it has been for the last two weeks) :/

Did you use the SPORTS section, or the RECREATION section?  ;)

Never tried it, but I would probably go 4000 and then the newspaper.

If he used the Obituary section, the ball might be DOA.

I can view the images from lilpossum1 either; it's not pointing to a url but to my own PC. I wouldn't worry. The ball will only look like a fine, not polished surface. I doubt anyone could tell how it will react. Depends on the ball's coverstock, the bowler and the oil.

I have tried it (4000 grit + wet newspaper) several times when 4000 grit didn't get me enough length. I have tried 2500 grit + Newspaper and didn't like it - still too early. Kidlost tried 2000 grit (corrected) + newspaper and loved it.

Since a 4000 grit Abralon/Siaair or the "T" pad from NEAT will get you more length than a 2000 or 2500 grit surface, I'd suggest trying a 4000 grit surface before trying a  2500+NP.

I've gone 2000 wet newspaper 6 sides on my Nexxxus and it looked and reacted like a high gloss polish. Very tacky. Showed my brother and he thought it was polished.

Well I was able to throw it a little tonight. Honestly, I bowled like absolute (insert choice profanity here.) The ball hit as hard as it ever has, but was also a bit controllable in the backend. Best reaction I have seen from it yet.
