Favorite Matte Finish?
« on: September 29, 2008, 01:39:38 PM »
With the discontinuation of Track's Clean-N-Sheen I find myself in need of a compound to get the same result.

I have heard lots about PowerHouse Factory Finish and Rough Buff....

Looking for a smooth finish that's free of sanding lines but not shinmy....

What have you all had the best luck with?

Ultimate Quick Kut and Polish is meant for the same purpose as Clean and Sheen, I believe. It seems to have a little more abrasive in it which allows it to even out sanding lines as low as 320 grit, but 400 - 600 grit is still the best starting point, as with Clean and Sheen.

Both, Ultimate and C&S, are meant to remove sanding lines from routing of plug fillers and to add a light compound shine.

It is not exactly Clean and Sheen, but it's the closest thing I have found.

I use 3M rubbing combound.I've used perfect-it,the new extra cut cerioum (sp)oxide stuff and I found a quart of super duty that works well.I have my Blast @ 1000 A with a very light coat of rubbing compound so you can just see the sanding lines and a twisted fury @1000 A and as high of a gloss finish I could get with the compound.I'm very satisfied with the results and a little goes a long way.

Doug -
Occasionally, Bowlingball.com has the Track ball cleaners and polishes on sale ... don't know if they have the Clean 'n' Sheen left though.

If you can find some, try Lanemasters surface cutting compound. The surface cutting compound will bring the ball from 320 up to 1200 matte.

EKW 320

its is a AL2O3 compound I am testing for my own "dull polish" which leaces a nice matte finish similar to a 1500grit
